You must favor Sonny ... I love Joe but any of these swarming guys would have been busted up pretty fast by Liston ..

I'll have to dig out the sources. But there was a prison record in Missouri showing Liston's height as 6'0" even. I believe I saw some of his earlier tale of the tapes listing him as being 6'0" as well. But does it really matter? The guy had freakish dimensions. Liston being 1" shorter doesn't negate his accomplishments.
And in boxing, as well as in other sports, height measurements tend to be inflated.

Sonny was usually listed as 6' 1", though I have aeen it a 1/2 up or down. Best to show confirmation rather than just say something is confirmed though. Sweating? Anyone can lose a lot of water weight, doiing it faster would not make a difference unless one had to make weight within hours or less-but anyway Liston did not need to lean out for fights & did not appear to do so.

The legs explanation makes sense, heard them described as relatively smaller before, though looking at him skipping rope they seem thick.

Archie Moore thought Liston would KO Frazier early in 1968, never mind in Sonny's prime. :yep

I feel bad for smoking Joe he is an ATG and seems to come up short in every H2H I see in this forum. I don't see him winning this though it's a repeat of his first fight with Foreman. I think Joe could slip Sonny's jab and get inside but when he does he finds a fighter who has superior firepower and is a quicker starter for an early exit.

I read the same in old ring magazines from that period.there was a rumour that mac foster had battered liston in sparring, moore said it was phooey and that frazier was being kept well away from liston by yancey durham.

Archie May not have realized at that point how good Joe Frazier was. I don't think anyone did. Taking apart Quarry, taking apart Ellis and beating Ali.

Perhaps, but he knew a bigger, stronger, top-level guy would smash the **** out of him.

I know Moore was not Listons trainer:patsch

Sadler was Listons trainer during the American leg of his comeback and Moore worked closely with Sadler. Archie would of had insight into a possible outcome since he knew Sonny. He could also have been entirely wrong since Archie was entirely wrong about George beating Ali even when he had that extra insight with both.

However, Moore having been both Foremans trainer and breifly Ali's you would think Archie had more insight predicting Ali v Foreman since he trained both Foreman and Ali. Unfortunately Moore was no closer to picking that outcome as Neville Chamberlain could ensure Pease in our time.

With extra insight like that (and getting it entirely wrong) why would you think Moore would more accurately predict the outcome of a 1968 Liston v Frazier match?

ffs choklab, the point he is trying to make is that Moore HAS TO SAY that Foreman will beat Ali, as his manger, but he does NOT HAVE TO SAY that Liston would beat Frazier, as he is not his manager.

It's so simple. Jesus H Christ.
