You are kidding, right? A decent straight left? It's argubly one of the best straight left hands in the history of boxing.

Yeah, I lean toward putting them both in the 40-50 range myself. Not sure if I'd put Tyson in my Top 50, though...:think

    both are top 40 definetly.

these ATG rankings are usually ******.all americans and from the past?according to these high level boxing pretty much stopped after 70's.and too many heavyweights in there also.

and have watched armstorng fights and it's pretty easy to say floyd and manny would wipe the floor with armstrong.seriously you watch eyes closed these past fighters?

armstrong would be a journeyman in the modern age.it has happened in every sport and boxing is no different, boxing is also only sport where these ******s say with straight face, that boxing was better in 30's than it is now.

but we just have to accept that they are blind.first truly great boxer was Robinson.and yes i have watched many fights from the past, also i respect the old times and we never know if "modern" armstrong would wipe the floor with floyd and manny.

this opinion is just purely based what i have seen from videos.

they were too slow, flat footed, wild punches and poor defence and if you can't see that, then i can't help you.

    Two words: Ricardo Mayorga.

And yet, Mayorga stopped a textbook boxer who was thought to be among the very best in the sport at the time to win a championship.

    Care to rethink that statement...?

Seems like you guys only believe the things you can misinterpret.. 'If I'm a coward, I'm a rich coward' for example.. Throughout his career he said he wanted to fight a lot of people he hasn't fought.. 100% his and only his fault I know.. He can make any fighter in the world fight him regardless of his or their situation with their boxing or personal life.. He is the #1 draw in the world and had been for a decade.. If the potential opponent don't agree to the #1 guy's request, he (Floyd Mayweather) is simply scared and/or ducking the fight and/or fighter.. Did I get it right?

there is big difference between modern Mayorga and ancient Armstrong.as i have said earlier i rate most old timers "journeyman's" in modern standards.

and yes they could be ATG'S,just like Jesse Owens etc..but atleast to me the skill gap, speed etc.

is too big to overcome, and i'm not bashing old greats.it's natural that boxing has evolved.

Sport can evolve...but talent doesn't evolve at the same rate.

Case in point...Your example of Jessie Owens.

Given that he was running in ancient track gear, on slower tracks, he still put up some insane numbers. His winning long jump would have qualified him for the 2012 final, and placed him in 7th place, less than a tenth of a meter out of the medals. With slightly improved track gear, want to bet that Owens could have jumped a lot farther?

Armstrong had similar talent. He routinely beat the **** out of guys who were much bigger, by virtue of his ability to close distance and mount a sustained offense that never really wavered in intensity at any point in the fight. And he generally kept his shape and remained defensively responsible while doing it. Can't think of too many guys in the modern day who are capable of doing something like that, especially over a fifteen round distance.

And I'm not saying that all old time fighters were capable of doing this, either. But Armstrong was just a beast in his own right...both in his time, and likely in any other time as well.

i'm only judging Armstrong by the videos i have seen him.was one of the greatest in his era.but what i have seen it's hard to imagine he could land anything or close the distance against floyd, maybe i'm wrong.but it's my honest opinion.to me that style is just too raw and ancient to be succesful in modern days.maybe i'm wrong.

and to be honest,it's wrong to compare Armstrong etc. against modern fighters.the game have changed so much.

I doubt Floyd is actually afraid of him, it's more due to his ongoing feud with the immortal Bap that this fight hasn't happened

to be fair, both Floyd and Arum have made some hilarious excuses, Pac is just Bap's tool who's been taught not to speak without grtting the say-so
