FANTASY UNDISPUTED CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

In a world where boxing was managed like UFC, no politics, no TV or promotional conflicts and no fighters ducking with the goal to find one fighter to hold all the belts.

The year is 2014, a 13 month long 8-man divisional boxing knockout tournament to find out who is currently the best fighter in each division whilst the winner becomes the undisputed champion of the world.

This would induce some mouthwatering dream match ups with plenty of entertainment and even some shocks with the best of the young rising prospects. In just over a year’s time, we would have all the answers to all of our questions! All the pieces in the jigsaw puzzle fits in nicely.

Concluding at the end of the year following into January 2015, a champion of champions catch-weight follow up to find out who are the best pound for pound fighters in the world.

The 8 fighters are chosen for this tournament are based on current form, the best rising prospects and talent, the best entertainers in the game and the fighters with the largest fan base.

Note - All the 4 major belt holders must be included in the tournament (unfortunately this includes Arthur Abraham).

The winners would fight a maximum of 4 fights in the 13 month tournament.

The best two heavyweights right now. I was watching some Pulev fights earlier today. I couldn't help but notice that he's a very slow stater. I think against Klitchsko this is really going to hurt him. Klitchsko might not put you on the edge of your seat, but he's effective. My pick is Klitchsko in 11 rounds.

2 - Tyson Fury Vs Tony Thompson replacing Anthony Joshua. Sorry thread stater but I just don't think Joshua with only 5 fights none set for more than 6 rounds should be here. I'm replacing him with Thompson who I rank as the third best heavyweight in the world. He lost to the 2 guys I rank a head of him though.

At his best Thompison is a crafty boxer with a good punch. It's a case of age and guile beating youth and power. Seeing how Fury was droped by a blown up cuusierweight. I see this as Thompson in 8 hard fought rounds.

In a rematch I tend to pick the winner of the last bout. However something just tells me that Chris Arreola is going to be the new WBC heavyweight champion.

4 - Deontay Wilder Vs Bryant Jennings

Why don’t the two US based WBC mandatories have a scrap to find out the one WBC mandatory!

Wilder might not have the best boxing skills or the greatest chin. Jennings is a really good boxer. Wilder despite not being a master boxer dose a good job of controling the distance. Whatever weeknesses Wilder has I don't think Jennings is going to expose them. Wilder in 1.

1 - Wladimir Klitchsko Vs Tony Thompson III - for WBA, WBO, IBF titles

The third time is not the charm for Thompson. I'm going to call this as Klitchsko in 10 rounds.



2 - Chris Arreola Vs Deontay Wilder - for WBC title

There is some history behind this and the fight itself will be a barnstormer!

Arreola has the power to test Wilder's chin which in my opinion is no worse than any other heavyweight. I just don't think he has the size to do so. I think Arreola is tough enough to make it out the first round, but I'm not sure about the second round.


Heavyweight Final - for Undisputed Title (WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF)

Wladimir Klitchsko Vs Deontay Wilder

Wilder has been Klitchsko's sparing partner for a while. He also spared with Scott and we saw how that played out, so I don't think he's going to have sparing partner syndrome. A lot in my opinion depends on how much Thompson extends Klitchsko in their fight. If Wilder dose have a week chin than Klitchsko will expose it. If he has a normal heavyweight chin and people make a big deal over that one time he got knocked down than I think Klitchsko who lost all three times by stoppage to lesser punchers is going to be in a lot of trubble. I think both boxers would be best advised to land fast and first. I think that better describes Wilder than Klitchsko and his safty first style. In a shocker Wilder in 1.

 

Ruslan should of advanced instead of Matthysse

 

Golovkin would beat Mayweather but the judges would award the desicion to Mayweather. But maybe Golovkin can KO Mayweather.

 

Just imagine if such a tournament could be setup,

Every boxing fans wet dream to see these fights being made.

 

Why is Pulev facing Klitschko first? Shouldn't that be the final match or something? Also, if there was ever a tournament like that, the world's #2 heavyweight Povetkin would be included.

 

Pulev is mando and I think a Pulev Wlad final wouldn't be as exciting as Wlad Wilder.

I felt in the heavyweight tournament, the 7 fighters to join Klitchsko should be fighters he has yet to fight.

Povetkin has lost already miserably to Klitchsko so he hasn't a chance in hell of become undisputed champion. Heck he would lose to Marco Huck again as well.

I feel a prospect like Joshua is worth a punt to make the heavies tourney exciting.

How long would it take Kovalev compared to Stevenson to knock Dawson out?

Dawson has great skills, but doesn't really have a chin. If he had a better chin I think he could go a long ways here, but he doesn't and he won't. Kovalev may or may not stop him faster than Adonis Stevenson did, but I don't see this going into the second round either.


2 - Adonis Stevenson Vs Jean Pascal - for WBC title

Great fight for Canada.

I don't think Pascal would beat Dawson in a rematch, and Hopkins bested him twice even if one of them was a draw. That being said i think he can push Stevenson a bit before the stoppage. Adonis Stevenson in 5.


3 - Bernard Hopkins Vs Andrzej Fonfara - for IBF title
I think Hopkins crusies to a comfortable decision win 117-111.


4 - Beibut Shumenov Vs Juergen Braemer - for WBA title
In a division with Hopkins, Stevenson and Kovalev Beibut Shumenov has flown under the radar. He's a good Puncher with good power. He would hand Juergen Braemer his first loss since 2008. Shumenov 116-112

We all know this is one of the biggest fights to make

I think both have underrated boxing skills, but in a fight between two punchers. I'll go with the guy wither the better chin. Kovalev in 4.


2 - Bernard Hopkins Vs Beibut Shumenov - for IBF, WBA titles

Not a foregone certainty
I have so much respect for what Hopkins has done lately. However I think that he dose a good job of matching him self up with one trick ponies like Cloud and Murat. I think that he would not beat Dawson if somehow he'd survived long enough here to get a third fight. I think that if Jones had not been gun shy in their rematch he would have beaten Hopkins. Like i said Shumenov is really under the radar his fights with Gabriel Campillo set him back a bit. In a close fight Shumenov by decision 115-113.

Decent realistic matchup

Andre Ward is one of those guys who doesn't pass the "eye test" but is really effective in the ring. I fell the same about Timothy Bradley. Julio César Chávez, Jr's. skill set is underrated. However he lacks something. Ward 117-111

Rematch to go the same way

I think Andre Dirrell will get rid of the cobwebs to build a good lead before fading late to hold on to a close decision win. 116-112.

3 - Carl Froch Vs George Groves - for IBF title

Happening for real in May and highly anticipated

I think the rematch will be a replay of their first fight George Groves builds a lead, but Carl Froch stopps him late. Froch in 9.

4 - Sakio Bika Vs Anthony Dirrell- for WBC title

This is a rematch of their Draw.

I think Bika is on browed time as a champion. Going into the first fight I thought Anthony Dirrell was going to win. My pick remains the same in the rematch. Anthony Dirrell 116-112

I think Dirrell gets off to a good start but Froch closes the gap in the mid rounds on the way to a 116-112 win.

There are two guys who will beat Sergio Martinez at middleweight and one of them is Peter Quillin. Martinez will win rounds, but I think Quillin stops him late. Quillin in 11 maybe down on the cards.

2 - Daniel Geale Vs Felix Sturm - for IBF title. I'm not big on either. I think Strum is a little bit better and will win.

3 - Gennady Golovkin Vs Marco Antonio Rubio- for WBA title

When Marco Antonio Rubio fought David Lemieux he was soposed to be a steping stone for an exciting boxer. He will be looked at the same way against Gennady Golovkin. GGG is a better boxer than Lemieux. Golovkin in 7.

4 - Martin Murray Vs Sam Soliman.
We have one great match up in the first round with Quillin and Martinez. We have another match up with a poaaible upset in Golovkin and Rubio. Than we are stuck with Daniel Geale Vs Felix Sturm and Martin Murray Vs Sam Soliman. I think Murrry is good just not on the Quillin, Golvokin or even Martinez (who he lost a close one to.) level. Murry advances with an easy win.

For a while I was of the opinion that Gennady Golovkinwould win this dreem match up. Now I'm not so sure. Tonight I'm going with Quillin in a close bout and another late stoppage and again possibly down on points.
