As stated before, Jessie Owens's best long jump in the 1936 Olympics would have qualified him for a 2012 final, and placed him not that far out of the medals. And that jump was made in ancient track gear and on a slower track.

Henry Armstrong had freakish stamina, damned good foot and hand speed, and judging by the way his opponents reacted after getting hit, a fair amount of power. That type of talent likely would have served him well, had he been around in another era...even a later one.

Sport evolves, but physical ability is physical ability, regardless of time period. That's a message that I'll continue to express...whether it be on rotary phone or on a smartphone.

Your not worth replying to, show me what titles you've won or your boxing record, don't get brave online! I dont think hes limited I know he is its a fact technically! the guys he fought would be equilvent to most fighters early pro opponents boxing has evolved, whether you like it or not.

you trolls can go back and take notes from me and a couple of other knowledgeable poster, I'm not replying again

Pac was too weak to man up and admit that Bradley was boxing his ass so he opted to say he was running from Rios. Just goes to show how stupid he is. He let Kellerman sit there like a high school ***** instigating an after school fight.

Marco Huck is the number one cruiserweight, and he isn't the most skilled or technically sound of fighters.

Yaegashi uses a swarming style, and is currently the lineal champ at flyweight.

Provodnikov lurks near the top of the 140lb division, as does Matthyse.

Leo Santa Cruz and Carl Frampton both use pressure as the basis for their approach.

There's a place in boxing for all styles, and each style will continue to produce their share of champions.

What titles have you won, show me your boxing record? :rofl

Trust me when I say this there has been better boxers than you (if you really do box) that would be embarrassed for you for having the opinion that Armstrong was limited and that past era's were not as good as today's era. An era that is widely regarded as one of the most talent lacking in boxing history :deal

Boxing has evolved in terms of sports science but other than that It sure as hell hasn't. Armstrong competed in an era where you sparred more and boxed more so skills were refined to a higher standard. I've seen the opinion that 'boxing has evolved' crushed many times on boxing forums and I can link you to a video where Roger Mayweather himself said past era's were better/deeper in talent than Floyds era.

I would advise you to log off right now before you dig yourself a deeper hole. Your completely out of your depth and have made a complete tit of yourself on this thread.

    God almighty! not again,

Carl frampton is not a brawler u absolute moron he was a great amateur and has great boxing skills! but all those guys you mentioned will loose and have lost to better boxers LSC will loose to rigo, matthyse lost to garcia who had more skill garcia lost to herrera and would loose to mayweather, Provodnikov has lost to bradley and herrera and will loose again, huck lost to povetkin

dont you see your soo blinded!
in the pros its about having your career carefully managed these guys will have avioded boxers to get to titles and then when they get there they loose to better boxers simple as

the boxer alwasy wins, and armstrong was great for his day but would barely be a journeyman at best today

case close!! I'm out! take notes and hope you've learned a couple of lessons from myself and a couple of other posters who know boxing and arn't brainwashed

I'm done no more replying to these morons!!!

    Recent years...

2010: Mosley and Pacquiao; fights Mosley
2011: Ortiz and Pacquiao; fights Ortiz
2012: Cotto or Alvarez and Pacquiao; fights Cotto
2013: Alvarez and Pacquiao; fights Alvarez

2014: no boogeyman left but you better believe if he was fighting Khan that 90% of this forum would become massive Maidana fans who think highly of him and would say over and over how he has the proven goods to trouble Floyd and how Floyd is too scared to fight him, won't fight a power puncher, etc.

When you make a big deal of fighting guys with no top wins like Corrales Canelo or Judah, or past their prime geezers like Oscar Cotto and Mosley that shows you are a neophyte when it comes to boxing

3 of them are going to be in the Hall of Fame...

2 of them were on everyone's top half of their Pound for Pound Top 10 List...

2 of them were the consensus number one fighters at Junior Middleweight...

2 of them generated enough fan intrigue to be the two highest grossing fights ever...

Someone who doesn't make a big deal out of these wins shows they are an agenda and emotional driven ho of a fan.

You'll note that I didn't refer to any of these guys as brawlers. I referred to them as swarmers and guys who use pressure and are generally aggressive. They all have some skill, and are good at what they do.

And even if some of them lost, that doesn't make them bad fighters. Huck gave Povetkin hell...as a heavy...and a lot of people thought he won. Provo gave Bradley hell, even if he lost. Matthyse ran Garcia close. LSC and Frampton may lose to Rigo, but I bet both of 'em have their moments and don't embarrass themselves.

You can believe what you want and you can be selective in terms of what you see...But if you really are a boxer, I would suggest you gain an understanding of what these supposed brawlers are capable of doing in the ring...'cause if you don't, your time with them is going to be rather painful.

Shane and Canelo springs to mind first. He was supposedly scared of both... Then both were cherry picks the instant he signed to fight them lol
