Last night proved just how wrong Stevenson is for Sergey!

Comments like this make me question if you even watched the fight.

The cuts where caused by accidental fouls (head and elbow).

Really I've never seen Stevenson knock someone out with a jab like sergey did last night :hi:

You might want to watch the Kovalev-Sillakh fight and re-think that assessment. It's possible that Agnew lasted 6 rounds because he was so defensive. Pay attention to how Kovalev KOed Sillakh--he landed a counter punch while Sillakh was punching, not after Sillakh was punching. Agnew knew to play everything close to the vest but it still didn't work out for him. IMO the more offensive the opponent is the quicker Kovalev is going to hurt him.

Yeah... Adonis obviously believes that too. I mean he clearly ran to Al Haymon because it would guarantee a Kovalev fight.

Also... Kovalev owned almost every second of that fight. The Clottey defense never makes for a showcase fight.

Who managed Stevenson before he bolted for Hayman? Did he manage Stevenson from his first pro fight until his recent change? Did Adonis screw the guy over or were their actual management issues that forced the change other Hayman's promises of more earning potential?

Any background info would be apprecizted. I am not just looking for fodder to slag on Stevenson, I am genuinely curious.

HBO had planned on making a Kovalev Vs. Stevenson fight this summer, so Stevenson ran to Showtime to keep from fighting Kovalev..................after a fight on HBO Stevenson was asked if he was going to fight Kovalev, Stevenson changed the subject.............

    I was thinking this.

Kovalev is very European... Very stiff... Basic defense...

I'm not saying he'll win, but Stevenson has a notable technical advantage

If Stevenson is so superior, then why did he run from Kovalev?

Kovalev will annihilate Stavenson is this really a debate? And one punch power goes to Kovalev.

Let me break down both fighters and I'll tell you why Kovalev KOs Stevenson

Stevenson's entire game is based on athleticism, speed and power (left hand), but lacking in the boxing department. He throws his jab from the hip and keeps his right hand low for a good portion of the fight. He loads up the left hand, making him slightly predictable. He use his jab as a set up shot, and not as a damage punch.

Kovalev is is better boxer than Stevenson. He shoots the jab from the chest, traveling a shorter distance and getting to the target faster. He shots it to the body and head, setting up his power shot, but he uses it to damage his opponents unlike Stevenson. Kovalev's got power in both hands, giving him a better arsenal compared to Stevenson's single power hand. Kovalev uses feints often, Stevenson does not.

Kovalev is also more intelligent in the ring. He adjusts during the fight and time his shots based on his opponent's tendencies. A good example of this is the Shillakh fight. Stevenson uses his speed to find openings.

Stevenson is more athletic, but he's less skilled than Kovalev. He uses athleticism while Kovalev uses technique. Kovalev has a near perfect jab, followed by straight combinations. Stevenson's jab leaves him open to attacks, as we've seen the past.

Because Stevenson holds his right hand low, it gives more openings to Kovalev than he realizes. Kovalev, who can be countered doesn't leave himself as open.

Overall Kovalev is just a better fighter, with better technique and a better arsenal.

Hmm... to be fair, many people said the same thing about Cloud. People thought he'd eventually crack that chin with one shot. He got systematically dismantled in there.

I believe we'll see this fight eventually. I don't care when it happens as long as both guys are still at the top of the LHW division. Either one could KO the other at any time.
