This has the potential to be a good fight. If Gonzalez beats Yaegashi (Who Ioka has a win over) for the WBC title, and Ioka beats Ruenroeng for the IBF title, they should fight each other in a unification match. Two undefeated three division champions. If Gonzalez wins, he has a very, VERY good resume.
I would be equally happy to see Gonzalez vs. Yaegashi or Ioka vs. Yaegashi II, whatever the weight. No combination thereof can disappoint.
Flyweight is ****ing insane. And here's an occasion where the censorship of the word ****ing is unreasonable. ****ing should be allowed in relation to the flyweight division.
But seriously, Gonzalez might have one of the best resumes in the sport with wins over Hirales, Estrada, Yaegashi, and Ioka.
He's just a busy little beaver these days, AFAIK. He was even talking about folding the league. :think
Easily the best resume nobody has ever heard of (except us diehard weirdos) ...though proportionately, while slim, Ioka and Yaegashi both have lots of quality between them. Extrapolate those out to Gonzalez's current experience (nearly thrice as many contests as Ioka, double Yaegashi) while still maintaining a generally successful trajectory with mostly top opposition and theirs could read as even better.
Big win will rocket Gonzalez up the p4p rankings. He's got the dominance. Recent history shows though, that once they break the p4p list, flyweights fold like faulty deckchairs...Calderon, then Segura, then Viloria, all in then - very much out.
They broke the mold with Chocolatito, I think. (now I'm craving hollow milk chocolate bunnies, hurry the **** up Easter...)
Yeah, I think you just barely missed the 2nd paragraph edit on my post. Ioka and Yaegashi could reasonably both rival his ledger without even cracking 30 bouts. Two guys from the same country, within distance of catching up to a once-in-a-lifetime phenom in the division. That's insane.
