Will Deontay Wilder's glass chin ruin his career?

I wouldn't say I could comment entirely without bias (since I'm in the UK and we have a few competitive heavies ATM) but I think Wilder won a lot of fans/respect on his recent visit and I'd like to see him succeed.

I think it's fair to say 'the jury is out' on his title credentials, he could blast someone out for a share of the belts or get beaten by a seasoned pro during an eliminator for example. I personally believe he will be exposed a la Price at some point en route to a title but I would like to be proved wrong and instead, see him in entertaining 'bombs away' type dust-ups.

As long as he plays his part in an entertaining and competitive 'post-Klitchko' era then that's fine by me, best of luck to him.

He certainly is a wild card, because he is yet to face anyone (except scott, which seems to be universally ignored in favour of a conspiracy) we just don't know how he will fare. It is all educated guesses and opinions atm, but I do feel like he may surprise alot of the 'hardcore' fans by not being a complete phony and fraud. He will win some, lose some, but most importantly be involved in some entertaining fights. I like the fact he isn't iron chinned, it means he has to try to get the other guy out before getting caught himself - kind of like a heavyweight version of buckaroo

The fact is that he obviously being groomed for stardom, because a american HW champion is a very valuable brand.They have padded his record and took there time with him, but maybe he is actually improving - no point rushing him untill he is ready, and right now, I think he is ready, or at least as ready as he will ever be.

P.S - Just one serious comment on the subject of bias, we are all biased to a degree, and we all should be! We are fans, not boxing historians or paid analysts so abit of bias is fine! The whole blind faith and delusional devotion thing that some people have going on is OTT in my opinion, but the term 'fanboy' is almost used an insult now, why? A boxer doesn't have to be best for a fan to like them, or believe in them :good

 

Get Wilder in with Tony Thompson, then we can get a good idea of what he's about.

I like this thread, some pointless school-boy hating obviously but most seem, if not enthused about Wilder, then at least curious....so I guess he is pretty popular given that most boxing fans on here will tune in to see his next move.

I'm not saying Wilder is the second coming but he's definitely a CHARACTER. His rather crazy style, sort of robotic yet uncoordinated, coupled with his mad power could make for some interesting fights. He might surprise a few people....(either winning or losing!)

Even if he didn't have a glass chin he has very poor boxing ability, he relies only on the early knockout, and I believe that just about anybody decent can beat him just as long as they make it out of the early rounds.

 

Yeah. Once his hype train crashes he loses his intimidation factor. Once that happens he'll be a joke...well bigger joke.

 

Will be very interesting to see what happens when somebody makes it to the middle rounds of the fight, will he have a plan B? His power gives him a chance at any point of the fight however.
