Don't see how LaMotta can pull this off. He's there to be hit and that pawing jab is doing nothing against Hagler. Could get interesting on the inside, but I can see Hagler keeping his distance, riding out a few rough patches and boxing his way to a clear decision.
A well conditioned Lamotta would be a terrific match up with Hagler , far more competitive than many think ... Jake was not some swarmer but had quite a bit of skill and put fast combinations together to the head and body .. you have to give Marvin the edge but it is a close decision fight .. Hagler would have to fight at a fast pace over 15 and he was always a bit shy abut his stamina if you watch the first Vito fight, the first Obel fight and the Duran fight .. Jake would make him fight and was far more durable than Sibson, Roldan or any of those guys Marvin diced up ..
I love Hagler but Jake was a stronger and faster version of Vito (who in fight 1 gave Hagler fits) Jake by UD
hagler had the equal of lamotta in the chin department and hit harder.lamotta was vastly under rated as a boxer but hagler could box as well as fight. hagler on points
Hagler by decision. No KO's in this one as both men had concrete chins but Hagler has the more varied arsenal, especially a better jab. LaMotta will have his moments though but overall Hagler utilizes his better boxing ability to take him to a points win. Good matchup.
Remember the way Hagler struggled against Vito in their first fight? Jake would brutalize Hagler. Jake by KO.
Hagler by comfortable UD. Marvin could do it all. Jake had the toughness, but Marvelous was the ultimate MW.
Prime for prime gotta go with Hagler, imho he just had the beating or at least equal of LaMotta in all areas. However if anyone has a time machine available, i would pay to see the bout, boring it would not be.
Two great fighters that don't mind getting in the mud. But Hagler on points, Lamatta fought in a style Hagler always looked good against other than Vito A. Most aggressive brawlers Hagler fought he pretty much destroyed. He wouldn't walk thru a prime Lamatta but he would win a comfortable dec in a hard fought fight.
I wouldn't rule out Hagler beating LaMotta by stoppage. If it did go the distance, it would probably be a comfortable UD for Hagler. LaMotta would give a good account of himself, with his savage aggression but, other than perhaps that aspect, Hagler has his measure in every department.
