You criticize Calzaghe for not being able to knock out a shot Roy Jones, when neither Tarver nor Johnson knocked out a prime Jones. And it's not like Tarver or Johnson were known for having great power, either.

    By an illegal punch....

So it wasn't even a legit punch. How do you even count that? :nut

Roy was befuddled and was completely and utterly outboxed for 11 rounds straight.

    He destroyed the man's face!

    Salem @168
    Mitchell @168

Kovalev should be able to finish the job @175

Calzaghe is still around, HBO wants a superfight :think

Does anyone else get sick of hearing this when 6 years later, Hopkins is still at the top of LHW?

That win is a good win.

Kovalev would get outboxed and look like an amateur in there against The Italian Dragon. :hey

Calslappy is one of most if not the most overrated boxer of all time. The only way for featherfisted calslappy to hurt or stop kovalev would be by fighting him in UK where british referee could simple stop the fight after calslappy lands a clean punch, but he would get cleverly'd on neutral ground.

FYI Sardinians rather be Corsicans or even Sicilian than Italian...Calzaghe probably pissed off at you :yep

I am being realistic I will even favor Calzaghe over GGG @168, in 175 Kovalev KHTFO no doubt...too much size and power

    I've said it before:

How are a mortician and Joe Calzaghe alike?

Both making their livings off the corpses of people.

Calzaghe got dropped by Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr (who was shot as hell) in the first round

I wouldnt be suprised if Kovalev stopped him in the 1st, Calzaghe wouldnt see past 6

it would have to be a prime Calzaghe to get a certain win. maybe even a late stoppage due to Kovalev not going many rounds, plus the work rate he'd have to compete with.

the later Calzaghe would be 50/50 for the win.

either way though, it wouldn't be easy. Kovalev is a beast out there. he'd give no one an easy time, win or lose.

Calzaghe, The Italian Dragon, Sir Joe, Pride of Wales. :happy

I'm also being realistic, Joe's workrate would befuddle any man between 160>175 in boxing today.

He would clean all those divisions out.

There is no knocking down that man who possesses one of the best chins in boxing history... the man's chin is cast iron!

Calzaghe will get a certain KO loss

Prime Calzaghe was 168, featherfisted at that

Salem & Mitchell floored him in his prime. Kovalev is a big 175 with maximum punching power a proven killer instinct...do the math

    No he wouldn't.

But to the main thread, Calzaghe would have to be favoured over Kov on account of superior skills, workrate and crowding. I wouldn't make him a huge favourite as Kov has the power to hurt with one shot. Joe had a great chin, but if he got hit by Kov, he might have trouble recovering sufficiently to weather the ensuing Kov onslaught.

Joe by UD with Kov a very serious and live underdog.

Toney is a level above either of them in the skills department, but his lazy ass would get outworked by the super-fit Joe.

Hopkins has been past his best and on the slide since around 2004 and while him doing what he does at his age is amazing, he is not the best fighter in the division and hasn't been for some time. No stamina Taylor and glass jawed Dawson both had far less trouble with Hopkins than your hero Calzaghe, I guess both of them must be all time greats too:nut
