Nothing but light jabs into the air from Smoes as Conlan dances at mid-range, shoulders turning in opposite ways to stay in defensive rhythm while pressuring Smoes with jabs and long flurries.

Conlan is coming in with the 1-2 on the belly and then chasing with the left hook up top as Smoes pulls away, catching him with it flush or just grazing depending on how tucked Smoes' chin is and how drawn back his shoulders at the moment of impact. Solid jabs on the body diving in by Conlan. Smoes is tagged by a long overhand right backing straight up onto the ropes.

Conlan is sticking the jab and tapping Smoes on the underside of the chin with it, mostly when Smoes dares to stretch out his own with briefly planted feet. Conlan is button-pushing with the jab on the face, throwing it casually without much snap, and Smoes is letting it land, wary of the big hooks and right hands. Sneaky right gets through for Conlan, looped at the start but straightened and delivered just over Smoes' partially lowered glove flush on the cheek. Smoes is rocking his weight on the sides of his feet, taking long steps backward with his rear leg, playing keepaway.

Conlan is jabbing up high, quick and light, getting Smoes to duck and cover. Big left rips on the body from Conlan. Smoes is hurt and dancing away. Conlan now starts working the other side with long hard looping rights downstairs. Smoes is running now, hands by his sides and breathing through his open mouth. More body shots by Conlan, trapping Smoes on the ropes but smothering himself and careening into him flapping low with both arms, Smoes' back coming off the ropes and ricocheting both of them out to center ring again, giving Smoes momentum to flee.
