One of the people connected with Mark De Mori was claiming in a newspaper article De Mori had made Australian boxing history by being the first to win two heavyweight world titles - the titles were WBU and WBF

How did Wilder get ranked by the WBC for not fighting anyone even nearly ranked? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$?

He's not the only heavyweight ranked well about their achievements. Mark De Mori is WBA #12 and has beaten precisely no one. His record makes actually Wilder's look good by comparison.

It's a funny thing, but everyone misunderstands the nature of the rankings, whether it's WBC, WBU, WTF or TTFN. By the explicit admission of the various bodies, they are not, and never have been, simply an attempt to rank fighters by quality, ability, & achievement. Rather, they are just a list of people who are "eligible to fight for a title", i.e., willing and available to pay a sanctioning fee if their number comes up. In other words, they are completely different to the rankings produced by The Ring (at least pre-GBP), BoxRec and The Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. In that sense the WBU & co. are not doing anything differently than the major bodies.

nonetheless, it makes a mockery of the sport
but it won't change while boxing is without one governing body

    From the article:

"The Ring magazine attempted to cut through all this opacity and complexity by developing its own titles and rankings, based on strict, objective, transparent criteria, and (perhaps most importantly) involving the payment of no fees. The credibility of this process went up in a puff of smoke in 2011 when the original staff of the magazine were fired by Golden Boy Promotions (owners of The Ring since 2007), suspiciously large numbers of whose fighters subsequently began appearing at or near the top of the rankings".

If you want to look at who has fought ranked fighters and who has not fought them and the real facts type independent world boxing rankings dot com and it shows you all you need to know. Wilder is ranked by all the ABCs, TransNat, ans is number 9 with the IWBR.....he HAS earned his place despite what many might think. He may have earned it by default in as much as NO ONE ELSE has fought much better quality....it is the same in every division. HUGO RUIZ won the WBA title and defended it 4 times without ever beating anyone in the top 50. If you scour through each division of the IWBR it will be it all clearer or foggier!

In support of my argument that WBA #12 Mark De Mori's record makes Wilder's look good, his next opponent is rumored to be Kenyan punching bag Raymond Ochieng. Ochieng has won 24 of his 44 fights and been stopped no less than 13 times!

The fact that most of the WBU's world titles are vacant only proves that Not just anyone can become a WBU World Champion!.

So the divisions where there is no titleholder is an indicator of the high standards set by the WBU organisation, and is a matter of them seeing nobody worthy of wearing the belt?
