Some hype trains get derailed, some keep chuggin along. Seeing which ones succeed and which fail is one of the most interesting parts of boxing.

What about that Itali-American from NY from the 90s. HW. Forgot his name, short, dark hair. There was lot of hype about him, I think he got some heart issues and retired later. I always thought he was a knock out waiting to happen.

mayweather ko'd hatton. i thought collazo dropped him and exposed him. apparently there's some other dude from the uk who exposed him first. i didn't see all of his fights and i normally don't follow british boxing so i can't say.

salido and cole did stifle lomachenko...but loma was giving salido the treatment down the stretch. that dude is the real deal. made no excuses. i'm willing to bet gary russell jr is NOT going to fight him.

    pirog was legit.

can't believe u missed lucas matthysse. that dude was supposed to be the second coming til he got served up by danny.

i'll take it further back...margarito was annointed the most feared until mosley got in that ass.

No Derailed Hype Train Thread is complete without mentioning Malik Scott, whose hype train was last seen speeding off a cliff into a 10,000 foot ravine and exploding in flames. The charred remains of the passengers could not even be identified by their dental records, unfortunately.

i don't know that i can put broner in the hype job category. sure...he was full of himself and thought he was the ****....but jumping up 3 weight classes to fight a beast like maidana was a serious challenge. and even though he loss...he didn't stop swinging to the very end. maidana didn't exactly finish strong and was apparently helped by ariza with his smelling salts in the corner.

coming off a robbery....a controversial stoppage....and then getting dropped by arguably the hardest puncher in boxing...i can't call that a derailed hype train. malik was good...but i don't think anyone was annointing him the next ali.

Wait...Moreno who? Anselmo? You mean the #1 bantamweight in the world right now, who only lost stepping up to super bantam against the hotly streaking and then still unbeaten Mares? :huh

...and Matthysse? Getting the best of the early action versus Garcia before sustaining the equivalent of what the allergic reaction to an entire beehive's worth of stings would be, with no end-swell in the corner?

For the record, I think Kessler being mentioned in the OP is ******ed as well. Kessler was an established top 5 all-time SMW long before he fought Ward (and probably stands as #3 behind Ward and Calzaghe, and #5 head to head with Toney and Jones spending too little time in the division to rank ahead of him on resume...the only guy you could argue over him being Ottke, and let's face it, Kessler would've ****ed Ottke up...)

when balloons get blown up to much they tend to :good

thats why you should check the guy out before you jump on his bandwagon. but theres nothing wrong in believing in prospect still fighting bums because you see certain things in him you like or you know them personally.

    sergi
    ggg

    are grossly overated

im giving broner a pass because i can. :hey
im giving canelo a pass because he fought floyd.

they are all hype jobs at the end of they day. the promoters hype of the fighters and there fights. so we can say everyone is a hype job and when the fighter loses come back and say SEE I TOLD YOU SO ? :-( thats wack to me.
wait for the fighter to lose and then say exposed or i told you so. its like 1 loss can erase every win in dumb boxing fans mind. boxing fans are bi polar !

an incredibly stupid post considering all the fighters from the U.S that were hyped to be the "next big thing" only to fall way short of peoples expectations.

but you call out supposed "hype jobs" in the likes of Hatton ( the champ at 140. beat a great fighter in Tszyu)

Kessler (a very good fighter with a good handful of wins, including a great one over Froch)

Loma ( having only his second fight, and against a title holder)

i mean, if you're going to have an agenda, don't expose yourself to be ripped apart and made to look silly in the process. these guys were not hype jobs in the slightest.

A bum who at the age of 20 became the youngest heavyweight in history and could have done so 2 years earlier if wasn't for a more experienced Larry Holmes. This "80's bum" remains one of the few champions to actually clean out his weight division. The first and only man to knock out the great Larry Holmes who will years later defeat a young Ray mercer and give a young Evander Holyfield more than he could handle.

A "glass Jawed Fraud" who was voted the best boxer of the Seoul Olympics despite being robbed of a gold medal. At such a young age he defeated fellow hall famers Bernard Hopkins and James Toney while displaying the type athleticism the boxing world have not witnessed since the great sugar ray Robinson. The first guy to knock down James Toney. Till this day his victory over Hopkins remains the clearest any boxer have had over Hopkins despite the fact that Hopkins is 20 years older since they first met. For over 10 years this "glass Jawed Fraud" sat atop the pound for pound list while winning championship in 4 weight division. This glass jaw fraud is the favorite boxer of some of the best boxers in the world such as Jean Pascal, Sergio Martinez and countless fighters in various forms of martial art.

We can guess your geographical location, which explains why you had the audacity to utter such blasphemy on this Board. It pains you so much to realize that only America can produce such quality of Athletic specimen.:lol::lol:
