Some really good fighters are much better than the amount of losses that they've suffered would indicate, due to the quality/quantity of their opposition. For me, these 3 come to mind: Bad Bennie Briscoe Juan LaPorte Alvaro 'Yaqui' Lopez
I still don't know how I came across it, but I wound up watching the Youtube trailer for the reality show he was pitching about his life two days ago. No joke.
when you say "contemporary"...how far back are we going then?.....if juan laporte is mentioned ?......should contemporary not mean active boxers ?
I know this is going back a bit, but whenever I see a subject like this I can't help but think about Teddy 'Red Top' Davis. He had a record something like 71-75 and I'm not kidding. He fought all the top fighters and beat guys like Paddy DeMarco, 'Chillin' Charley Riley, George Araujo, Percy Bassett, Tommy Collins and Federico Plummer. He fought Sandy Saddler for the featherweight title and went 15 rounds. He also fought (and lost) Willie Pep 3 times as well as several other world champions. He fought at a very high level and his record is most misleading.
