Was Calzaghe's dispatching of Jeffrey Lacy one of the greatest/best wins of this era?

calzaghe ruined the guy, lacy was a champion and a guy who was destroying people. jeff lacy supposedly was destroying bums, but after calzaghe ruined him lacy couldn't even beat bums anymore. lacy was a destroyer and the favorite going into the fight - afterwards lacy was a bum. great performance, great win.

Lacy was exposed prior to his fight with Joe anyone with half a brain knew that he wasn't in Joe's league but I'm sure the same people who thought Jeff would just beat Joe were most likely the same people that said that Pavlik was going to KO Hopkins !

Hype trains breeds a ton of boxing ignorance and this was no different !

why do posters keep going on about the Lacy win as if it were some kind of miracle?

you do know you're doing Joe a disservice by going on about this fight? it was just one of many scalps that Joe took.

Lacy was a very good fighter that the Yanks picked to destroy Joe. but Joe was the destroyer. we get it. it was a great win and performance.

but please, shut the **** up about it! it happened 8 years ago. no need to keep on about it.

the Yanks have been wrong about many of their fighters. they will be wrong again. talk about those fights. not one that happened 8 years ago like it was the be all that ends all.

i love Joe. but please stop.

No. Lacy was all hype with limited substance. His dismantling of Kessler was a far superior performance.

It wasn't even the best win of 2006.

It was a sweet humbling over the yanks more than a great win. Lacy was clearly a hype job. JMM over Pac gets my vote. They were Both great fighters not papers champ like Joe and Lacy were at the time.

I remember when this fight was being talked about . . . the boxing crowd that I hung out with were saying: "who the hell is Lacy? and what the FU.CK is the SMW division? wasn't that the division created to give SRL another belt? nobody took that division seriously back then where I am from

Joe's best win i him just getting by a young Kessler. The best win of the era would probably have to go to Rigo over Donaire. people had donaire ranked as high as 3 p4p going into that fight and Rigo shut him out . . . donaire, a solid fighter has looked shaky ever since.

I guess you are either new to boxing or didnt follow a division if it didnt have fighters from your country as champs because the SMW division has been around for a while and had many great fights before that one. It was also a tougher era then, than it is now.
    I bet you knew CW

it was historic in the sense that a Brit got to beat a hyped American for once, and for that we should give Joe credit, especially when he'd fought as a virtual national champion for years.

Whilst no Hoenyghan-Curry, not even close, its nice to see the pattern go this way and we should be proud of it when it happens.

no it was not. Calzaghe whole body of work is good and consistent. He is not a big ATG but he proved he is Hall of Fame.

beating lacy wasn't a "great win" now that we have the benefit of hindsight, but it certainly dismantled a myth that lacy was world class

EDIT : more correct for me to say it wasn't "one of the greatest wins of this era". calaghe certainly made a statement by destroying lacy

America boxing media had Lacy as a super human who could never get beaten, that's what made Calzaghe's win so big..........................of course Calzaghe made Hopkins look like a fool, made Jones look bad also.........
