Lewis Pettitt just beat Emerson Carvalho by TKO5, capturing the vacant WBA International super bantamweight title.

 

Earlier on the undercard, Fast Eddie Chambers scored a first round knockout of late replacement Moses Matovu.

Chambers is now fully clothed and providing commentary at ringside.

 

FWIW, Matovu had only been stopped thrice before in now just one shy of fifty career bouts...with most of those hours logged servicing unbeaten prospects.

 

Simon Barclay vs. Igor Barucha, 4 rounds @ cruiserweight

 

Round 1

Barclay is sticking the jab into Borucha's face, keeping him at arm's length and shimmying to his left with a little full-body dip on each step. Corkscrew hooks at the body from outside by Borucha, coming up short. Barclay jabs at the body a couple of times and brings it back up into Borucha's face as his arms drift instinctively downward.

Round 2

Barclay is leading with left uppercutting hooks sliding his lead foot diagonally in and lined up with Borucha's right pinky toe. Right hands dropped in by Barclay, turning Borucha and staying clear of his predictable sweeping hooks and clambering rights. Barclay keeps sticking the jab as he circumnavigates on the balls of his feet.

I didn't realize until just now the kid was making his pro debut. Very sharp, considering.

 

Round 3

Barclay is pushing Borucha several involuntary steps backward with the jab on the belly. Double jab, right cross on the face by Barclay zipping in and out. Borucha folds himself up and slaps a high blind left hook with his head bowed and lowered to his right, parlaying the inevitable miss into a scrabbling clinch. Barclay skips away and sticks the jab.

Round 4

Barclay is spider-legging his way outside, preserving the shoulder width spacing of his bright neon yellow clad feet, carefully sticking the long jab. Borucha is attempting to psyche him out, holding the left arm out straight ahead like a battering ram and then waving in a vague approximation of a hook feint. Barclay refuses to acknowledge his shenanigans, committing to his stick and move game plan. Lunging rights shot up top by Borucha charging in, countered effectively with a spin inside and short right uppercut from Barclay.
