Reid wasn't mismanaged they knew he had the eye problem and had a short amount of time to make him the most money.

Reid wasn't rushed because he wasn't going to be around for long due to the eye trouble. it was just about making a big pay check so he got something out of boxing and had something to fall back on.

    i'm 50/50 with Vargas.

yes, he was rushed and should have had a bit more experience before going in against a killer like Trinidad.

    but...

Trinidad wasn't planning on staying at 154 for long, so if Vargas wanted the fight, and at 154, he had to jump on it when he did.

that's why i have respect for the fighting mentality that Vargas had in putting his career on the line and basically daring to be great. he failed, but he gave a good account of himself and was one half of a great, and exciting fight.

instead of the many fighters that we see Today, not wanting to fight the best and cherry picking their way through, he had what makes fighters real and true to the competitive nature of the sport. he had the heart and courage to go for it. he should be given credit for that.

and had he not taken that fight, Vargas would have had a much better career than he did do. a prime Vargas would have beaten De La Hoya and made him a Superstar off that one fight alone.

he was especially too emotional and macho in the Trinidad and De La Hoya fights.

i'm not saying it was his downfall, but it was part of it. but you're right, when he kept a cool head his talent showed.

Yeah he did! In the tito fight he showed heart but Tito was throwing those left hooks with bad intentions, probably would K.O anyone at 154 today, plus the low blows are what doomed Vargas.

Man, was Vargas fun to watch or what? Yes, I am a hugeeeee Vargas fan. He was one of the first fighters I followed when I started following the sport. Will always be a supporter. I LOL when people try to say he was trash. They obviously are Boxrec warriors.

Not sure exactly how true it is, but it's been said that Main Events wanted to move Vargas fast because they were worried about his outside-the-ring troubles. He was known to be a hothead and he got arrested for allegedly beating a guy up with a gold club.

So they might have both been pushed pretty fast, for different worries by their management

Heard that Vargas was destroying himself pretty fast with his life outside of boxing that's why they preferred to rush him.

P.S. sorry thread stealer didn't see your post
