Patterson of '59 is a massive W, even barring any other big ones.

Utter demolitions on Ten Hoff, Cooper, and Machen by themselves wouldn't mount a case but they do stand in support that one big W as "better than nothing", enough to make him not quite just a one-hit wonder against reasonably serious opposition.

    This. Glory division.

By the standard of the "one big win" argument, Daisuke Naito is a sure fire first ballot HOF'er! (I am a big Naito fan)

Who cares where they are from?

    How does that affect merit?

Should the first world champion from every country get in?

the same reason that Randolph Turpin is: to make the American Robinson and Patterson look better. not because the Americans think Turpin and Johanson are HOF worthy.

    So what?

Who cares if he is American or European or Asian. It doesn't change or improve what he did.

Ethnicity of a fighter should not impact how we view their resume and performances in the slightest.

    ---

It's like saying Beibut Shumenov should get in the HOF. Why? Because he's like the second titlist ever to make it who was born in Kazakhstan! Duh!

You're not looking at it from the point of view of the HOF. It is an International Hall of Fame. It strives to be international. The HOF page on Johannson makes a big deal about how he was also European heavyweight champ. And a Swede.

How many Europeans have been lineal heavyweight champ? Guess what? They're all going in.

its a joke, patterson should barely get in it,he was the first man to regain it,so what ali won it 3 times,i dont see this as a plus,i see it as they ****ed up losing it to inferior opposition in the first place.johansen wasnt that great, definately not hof material,he was a solid heavyweight that is all
