Arturo Gatti - Was never that good, ever. Lost all his big fights. Remembered mostly for getting battered by Mayweather. Had some great wars with Micky Ward who was also limited, so i suppose we should put Rios and Alvarado in there. He is only in the HOF because he is dead Vitali Klitchko - Under rated on here, but he was a beast. He personifies granite chin. Best KO ratio of all time i think. Was on his way to battering imo the 3rd best heavyweight of all time in Lennox, untill the cut happened. Never truly lost a fight :yep
Even though I do agree that he doesn't belong there if we judge based on ability but that's not what the Hall of FAME is about, it's about how famous and recognized you are publicly. Gatti was surely HOF material based on that. A fighter that doesn't belong there is someone like Calzaghe who's hardly known by anyone.
i'd agree with both, but as far as vitali is concerned i'd say hes a dead cert in the next few years when eligible
Based on fame, then yes you are correct :thumbsup Calzaghe though, not sure about that. He did enough to be considered by many 1 of the 2 best SMW of all time. And he is certainly known on this side of the pond, and infamous on this forum :hey
Joe Cal -one of the most accomplished smws, yes , maybe, bt far from the best, there are at least 5 definitely better and dozen more arguably better. He does enough to get in, having a record number of defences albeit most of them rather fake, a berth he shares with Ottke. Its not a berth anyone would rush to be in, to be fair. Vitali, possibly de to him being one of 2 brothers top hold the HW titles simultaneously.
right so tommy morrison should definately be in there then i guess due to his fame in rocky 5,and scratch off anyone who had a great fighting record who shyed away from the lime light ?
There are numerous fighters that should be in the IBHOF before guys like Arturo Gatti, Jess Willard, Barry McGugian. Them being in and fighters like Eddie Booker, Esteban Dejesus, Donald Curry and Julian Jackson not being in is pretty bad.
i think any boxer who has something better then ANY other boxer living or dead immediately qualifies to be in the HOF arturo gatti had the biggest heart you have ever seen in boxing. and lets not forget the memorable fights he gave us, i think he more then qualifies. VK i think gets in along with his brother.. they completely dominated the division for god knows how many years now
Heart can't be measured. It can't be quantified if Gatti had more heart than someone like Chacon, Frazier, Saad, Corrales, or someone like Sam Langford who fought basically blind. There can be other guys out there with as much desire to win that are higher quality fighters so you don't need to see it as much. Or maybe they are less talented and we never hear about them. Micky Ward had lots of heart, but was simply a less talented and skilled fighter than Gatti.
The HOF has become a huge joke. Isn't Stallone in there as well as a slew of other non-deserving non-particpants?
There's always been a lot of people in the "non-participant" section of the IBHOF. I don't see the big deal about Stallone being in there, he's in as a screenwriter, not the only writer in there. Granted, most of them also did sports journalism, but I would think that Budd Schulberg is in the IBHOF thanks in no small part to On the Waterfront. Rocky definitely did more good for boxing than On the Waterfront, definitely not a movie that would make you want to box Jose Suliaman, however, ugh.
Stallone in there and DeNero isn't? That's what's wrong with boxing, fantasy over reality, like many of it's fans. Raging Bull>Rocky, and to put Stallone along side real relevant non-participants like Angelo Dundee and Eddie Futch is a joke only endorsed by losers.
