Pacquiao says he's still capable of fighting at 135 lbs

He doesn't cut weight at all right now. Of course he can. Though I think 140 would be more comfortable for him at this stage without any chances of weakening himself.

 

Which is my point. The guy isn't that small. People make it seem like he's some shrimp. He was cutting weight to make 135.

Pac could have been fighting at 147 for a while. And the catchweights against Oscar and Cotto weren't needed if he's coming in at 147-150 anyway.

To gain an advantage. At that time the weight was tougher to make for Marquez. Juan looked terrible against Floyd at that weight, so why not drag him up there again?

 

90% of boxers cut weight. Who was the last opponent he outweighed on fight night or on weigh in? It's normal for a boxer to put on 10-15 lbs fight night, some would say that extra weight is an advantage, some would say its a disadvantage due to draining.

I think boxers find it harder to cut weight as they get older, slower metabolism and I dunno if you guys have cut weight before, I do it for amateur bouts though nowhere near the extreme of putting on 15lbs overnight and that **** is mentally taxing. Starving and dehydrating yourself is not easy, specially if you're already on that silk pajama and million dollar house.

Pac came in at 148 1/2 pounds on fight night anyway. Floyd came in at 150 on fight night.

Oscar came in at 165 against Floyd, and at 147 against Pac.

Pac had a weight advantage on Oscar, and Floyd was outweighed by 15 pounds.

What was the need for a 144 or 143 pound catchweight when he fought Marquez? Why not all the way down to 140, or 141 if he wanted to keep the titles on the line? He's either lying about the weight, or he thought it gave him an advantage. No other option in that respect.

He enters the ring at 151 pounds as a WW. Not abnormal for a man who makes the Lightweight limit, either. But he gains from not having to actually shed the additional pounds and being able to carry it through the end of his training. Surely, his performances would decrease if he fought at lightweight.

It just doesn't make sense.

He has fought at WW or above with nothing under, for 5 years now.

Oscar hadn't fought at WW in over 7 years before facing Pacquiao there. And as you say, for whatever reason, Oscar was outweighed by the former Flyweight entering the ring.

 

He probably could. He walks around the 147 region and a lot of fighters cut more weight than that.

Roach has said for a while though that he believes cutting a load of weight to be overrated.
