I really wish that WBO belt went away I liked the days of just the major 3 .

If we can get back to having undisputed champs all this other crap goes away.

 

Let's give Sergey the benefit of the doubt. He is a fighter full of pride and knows that he has great weapons to take others to the limit. Let's say Sergey never got scared of stepping up with a celebrated fighter who most probably would beat him but you have to point your finger to Kathy Duva. She managed the easiest way for a title shot against an undefeated LHWT titlist and since Nathan Cleverly had no chance to engage with and survive Kovalev, Kovalev looked good and got a contract with HBO.

 

Too many people on this site like to use words like, Ducking, and scared, but the reality is, these are mainly business decisions.
It would have been a better decision from a business standpoint for Kovalev to postpone meeting Hopkins and chose Cleverly instead.
The longer Kovalev postpones BHOP the more advantage he has.

Hopkins and Stevenson are perfect for each other. They're both like 10lbs of **** in a 5lb bag.

I didn't say Sergey was afraid but it is reasonable to say that a business decision that makes Sergey/ Main Events/ Kathy Duva go to Cardiff, Wales, get a contract with HBO while there's a cold war going on and Bernard is with GBP and Showtime means that their standpoint is that they don't want that fight later too rather than sooner. Actually HBO told Richard no to Kovalev-Hopkins so I am pretty glad that Adonis jumped to this side of the street, God bless Al, for a big Money fight here where all the major titles and the lineal title is - WBC, WBA, IBF. Sergey and Kathy are already showing signs of frustration calling names, pieces of ****, calling out SMWs like Andre and sooner will move up to CW, you'll see.

 

Kovalev said they weren't sure if Hopkins would accept the fight, Cleverley was a great opportunity he simply had to take, and guess what, it worked out very well so far.

 

The Duvas weren't sure that IBF mandatory fighter would get the fight with the IBF titlist cause he would might run to Wales to face Nathan which was Nathan's desire and what they, the Duva's did. I'm sorry, this is a no brainer - Kovalev people ducked Hopkins and have the nerv to say that it was because they weren't sure if Hopkins would...

 

Showtime refused to buy Hopkins-Kovalev and HBO no longer does business with Golden Boy, so the fight not materializing has more to do with the politics of boxing, rather than either fighter "ducking."

Hopkins did, however, tell Dan Rafael that the logical thing to do was have Kovalev fight Cleverly and have him square off with Stevenson, with the winners eventually facing each other. Then not too long after Cleverly-Kovalev was signed, Hopkins began saying he wanted Kovalev but Kovalev chose the safer route.

If Kov's management was as confident as you are they would have enforced their mandatory instead the chose the easiest route. Why are you bring up Murat? are you suggesting that Hopkins had something to do with is immigration issue. Show a prove that Hopkins tried to get away from fighting Kov after he became his mandatory or shut the **** up.

 

I'm not sure what the Russian would have gained by that fight, especially since Chad Dawson, seemingly had a easy sparring session against Hopkins.

 

I suspect you've read all about this already and have heard the arguments and are simply providing a Hopkins friendly perspective. Fair enough I guess.
Repeating the same old is becoming slightly tiresome but it looks like it's my shift.

Duva took the pre-arranged fight with Cleverly over the one that looked likely not to happen with Hopkins - that isn't a duck in my book, but play it how you will (despite basically standing up co-promoter W a r r e n at the announcement presser whilst trying to see whether a Hopkins fight was actually feasible).

Thing is it didn't really matter what Hopkins actually said, Espinozas refusal to air the Kovalev fight amounts to a Hopkins refusal to make the fight unless you can provide some rationale that Espinoza chose to refuse the Kovalev fight for commercial or legal reasons beyond Hopkins' remit. Undoubtedly Kovalev would have generated more interest and a greater viewership than Murat, so why refuse?
