very bold move, i wonder how much involvement cameron dunkin has in all this. dunkin manages most of robert garcias stable including brandon rios, nonito donaire and mikey garcia. dunkin is largely a top rank guy, he is also the manager of terence crawford, although he does have a couple young prospects over at golden boy. dunkin also managed tim bradley until very recently when he parted ways and signed an extention to his top rank deal, its possible that cameron felt top rank advised bradley to leave cameron so they are able to give him the money he wants. cameron may want to get revenge for losing his star fighter at a time where he is earning multi million dollar pay days by advising mikey to get out of his contract and go over to golden boy.

the fights at 135 over at golden boy do look good, mikey garcia vs omar figueroa in san antonio could do 30000 easy.

ESPN asked Dunkin about the lawsuit on Monday and he said he had no knowledge of it.

No, I am not a lawyer. There is a bunch of legal jargon in this complaint that I am unsure of. There also seems to be multiple accusations of various state and federal statute violations from Garcia. I'm not familiar enough with the law to give a meaningful opinion on many of these complaints. The one complaint from Garcia tha seems relatively clear is that his contract is up.

Both promotional agreements were signed in California by a fighter who resides in California. Califronia law dictates that said contract would be subject to California law. California law dictates that a promoter cannot have a fighter enter into a contract that is longer than 5 years. Top Rank has attempted to skirt around the issue by signing Garcia to a 5 year deal and then extending that deal for another 5 years midway through the contract. Garcia's contention is that this would effectively constitute one contract. His 2009 agreement ended on February 27th of 2014. So he's already been under contract for almost 8 years. That seemingly would violate California law which would mean that Top Rank couldn't tack on any other entensions. If any extensions of the 2009 agreement are deemed invalid, then that would mean that Garcia is no longer under contract with Top Rank.

This particular aspect of the lawsuit depends on whether or not the judge rules that the 2006 and 2009 agreements consitute one contract. If the judge rules yes, he's no longer under contract. If the judge rules no, then we'd have to look at any other extensions that where done after 2009.

    It sounds like it.

It may be true that Lara was rollin around the ground like he was on fire when he fought Angulo, but it's also true that Garcia is trying to run from Gamboa.

    What's all this litigation about?

    Man...

The only reason Garcia is suing top rank is because he doesn't wanna fight Gamboa.

All this runnin and duckin is gettin outta control.

really surprised by that, Robert Garcia talks very well of Cameron Dunkin, calls him the best manager in the game whenever the likes of al haymon are mentioned. Mikey doesn't seem to be one to get involved much with boxing politics so for him to go out and get himself in to a dispute with his promoter someone must have had a word with him.

Isn't it the second fighter out of Garcias camp that sues TR, with Donaire being the first?

We all saw how that ended... Donaire's career suffered big time.

I'm a huge gamboa fan, but his career has derailed badly. to think he was on the verge of superstardom and then everything stalled. top rank didn't want to make the juanma fight when they were undefeated and it would have been a huge vegas fight. now gamboa is inactive, and hasn't had a meaningful fight in years, and at 135 his ability is under question.

mikey vs Figueroa is definitely a bigger fight, and stylistically a better fight.

I think Garcia has a stronger case than Ward. Top rank knew about the labor laws and they did what they had to do to keep a fighter, make him sign over-lapping contracts to extend his stay.

Ward on the other hand only signed one contract. Both guys are trying to use California labor laws to get out of the contract, but there are always exceptions. That's why Ward lost the first lawsuit and Donaire lost his lawsuit. Boxing contracts are a gray area because the promoter can claim that they've invested in the fighter and build their star status so it's different than most labor contracts.

It's going to be tricky, but Garcia does have a case. I just hope we get to see a Gamboa fight because I'm tired of big fights not getting made.

Gamboa is obviously not the brightest guy in the room. He should have fought the Rios fight instead of burning bridges. Floyd was a bad influence on him and got him thinking he was bigger than he really was. Leaving Arum for Fiddy f*cked up his career badly.

Now I'm reading that he wants as much money as Garcia in the fight and pricing himself out. He should take the smaller money and make more in the rematch...and yes, there will be a rematch if he wins and it'll be lucrative. But Gamboa is an idiot and think only in the short term.
