If the three of them battled each other, each fighting the other who would come out on top, play these fights out for me
H2h and also in a rating sense this is hard, so hard, as ATG MWs i would pick - 1. Hagler 2. Monzon 3. B-Hop Just my opinion, but h2h, this is difficult and would take analysis!! I'll be back soon with answers!!!!
Rating these three H2H is proving too difficult for me. You could make a case for either being at the top, but most would more than likely opt for Monzon. I don't think Hagler or Monzon were techincally as good as Hopkins. But it's styles that make fights. All three were durable as can possibly be and not bad chins either.
Me too. Head to head in a box off, it's just not possible to say. I can't imagine peak Hopkins getting dominated in a trilogy against any other MW. I can't imagine Monzon getting dominated in a trilogy against any other MW. I might be prepared to stick my neck out over Hagler Hopkins with slight lean to The Executioner...but let's face it - Hagler could win it 3-0. The all made my top 55, Monzon, Hagler, Hopkins in that order - but if Hopkins wins this weekend he would leap frog Hagler.
Im glad to see im in the company of some of the classic forum's best posters inthinkin' this is so difficult it is ridiculus!!!
1. Hagler 2. Monzon 3. Hopkins This is tough because you can't say for sure how they'd do against each other as they're all on the same level talent, ability, and greatness wise. Not much seperating the no. 1 all time middleweight h2h (whoever you think that is) and the nos. 2-5 all time middleweights. One of the deepest divisions all time.
Monzon Hagler Hopkins Hopkins is the only easy pick here at #3. He fought a lot lesser luminaries and won more unconvincingly than he should of at times. That said, he is still a great, great fighter. I just see Monzon's upside (strength, chin, heart, effective power) as being too much for almost anyone at 160. It was almost unfair that anyone could weigh in at 160 and still offer that kind of sustained, unrelenting power for 15 rounds. A motivated Hagler, though, would give him as good a fight as he ever found. It is a real pick'em between 1 and 2 for me.
1. Carlos Monzon 2. Marvin Hagler 3. Bernard Hopkins All three of them are so close in ability, so there's really a case you can make for any one of them being on top of the head to head list. Truly special fighters.
1 Hagler 2 Monzon 3 Hopkins only separated by an underage ****-hair; i'd have no qualms seeing them re-jigged in any order really
