This is just something to entertain the public and not to disrespect Shumenov. Actually when Beibut said he was honored to fight a true legendary fighter in the post fight interview after Kovacs with Barry Thompkins, Barry called Bernard in and Bernard said the same, that he would be honored to take his belts... Shumenov who is a rigid personality couldn't help to smile and shake hands with Hops. This is just an opportunity for haters to find matter to disrespect BHop once and yet again.

Nah...I think he acted about right...he woulda just looked stupid if he'd reacted. Worth remembering that Shumenov has never really been in the kinda high profile fight where that kinda play-acting and showmanship goes on.

Besides which, whilst I always rag on the manner in which he got and kept his belt, the guys a classy dude...well educated, multi-lingual and a trained lawyer, comes from a serious money family....it kinda woulda been a bit beneath him to lose his composure over something like that.

I just read this USA today article and it says shumenov took the belts back when it was his time on the podium

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...kins-set-to-defend-his-legacy-at-49-/7846653/

"With Kazakhstani Ambassador Kairat Umarov looking on, Shumenov did not react at first, but appeared to be fuming and embarrassed. A few minutes later he addressed the media and Hopkins.
"It's an honor fighting you," he told Hopkins, who is about a 2-1 favorite. "But you're mistaken if you think I'm thinking that I am fighting (a guy who is) 50 years old.
"On Saturday night, we're going to see who is taking whose belts. I've never faced anyone on Bernard's level. But I am not fighting for the money. I am fighting for the honor, the glory to be the best and to be acknowledged as a great fighter.
"I prepared for this fight like it's my last fight. I am ready to die to get the victory and you're going to see that. I am a man of my word, so you're going to see a great fight."
Then he reached over and reclaimed his belts.
Hopkins, the ultimate baiter and a master at head games. broke out in a wide grin. "Now we got a promotion," he said. "He's alive!"

    I don't get this generation.

    Of course that's disrespectful.

    No he didn't.

Calzaghe was taking the WIND outta Hopkins. Hopkins play acted his way outta of a TKO.

    That was bull**** by Hopkins.

It was just as bad as his flying head butt against Dawson in the second fight.

I think Hopkins is a great fighter, but one day, he's gonna talk **** and disrespect the wrong person.

    It might be Shumenov.

You don't fight a buffed up Korean dude at the age of 50. Hasn't he seen blood sport?

That was a very even match with Hopkins surprising Joe early and Joe coming with all his heart and own experience to maybe steal it in the last quarter of the fight. Bernard was not disrespectful towards Joe just cause he took a breeder but Chad had to pay for the slam in the first fight.

Concerning the Korean who is a Kazak lawyer and is basically a martial arts experimentalist and a Mike Tyson fan, he doesn't intimidate anyone. Actually he started this whole situation shining shoes and now he is beginning to get out of focus. That is exactly what we want, for people to lose focus, throwing down their flags, putting hands in their faces, anything, since this guy is a good guy who has shown respect, why not a prank stealing his titles?

I really hope Shumenov knows to separate his fanboy respect for Hopkins when the bell rings.

The last Hopkins fight (with Smoger as the ref), I think the other guy was just happy to share the ring with some boxing legend. It wasn't a fight at all.

Shumenov is a smart guy but I have to wonder about his decorum and obvious respect for Hopkins despite his antics. He should light that f*cker up, bully him for 12 rounds and get the W.

For me, so often people hold far too much respect for the grandad - letting him yap away for hours with his nonsense; tolerating his twattery outside and inside the ring - like the fear of trying to punch him might look bad on them. I hope Shumenov isn't that dumb.

Shumenov has a sneaky short R hand he throws when he's about to be clinched.

When Roidnard tries to hug him, he'll then learn who he's dealing with.:good
