“We’ll discuss it with Al [Haymon, the boxing adviser who has Mayweather and Porter in his huge stable of clients] and with Team Porter, and why not?..Me as a fan, after what we’ve seen that he’s [Porter’s] done with Devon [Alexander], who is an outstanding boxer, and what he’s done with Paulie, who’s an outstanding boxer, and Floyd is the best boxer, from a boxing point-of-view. So I’d love to see the match-up with somebody as young and as aggressive and as relentless as Shawn. Relentless is the word. And who goes for it when he sees he has somebody in trouble. I as a fan would love to see that fight.” I think this fight would make perfect sense for September, provided Mayweather gets by Maidana. Garcia isn't ready yet, and if Lara beats Canelo a two month turnaround is too short for a big PPV fight. You have the Collazo/Khan winner, but I'm not sure many people would be interested in seeing a Mayweather/Collazo fight. A fight with Khan is viable, but not off the strength of a win over Collazo. Furthermore, Khan's observence of Ramadan may prevent him from being ready to fight in mid September. That leaves Porter. He fits the Mayweather profile. He's a world champ, and he's coming off a couple of excellent performances. Brook is Porter's mando. However, the IBF has rules that allow unification bouts to trump mandatory defenses. Lastly, there are no network or promotional issues. It all makes sense. I guess we'll have to see what happens.
Bad fight, Conte won't want anything to do with USADA testing and Porter's performance will probably suffer if he goes through with it.
Going after Pacquiao is a waste of time. Not only is Arum at war with Mayweather, Schaefer, and Haymon, he's also at war with Showtime and the MGM Grand(The MGM has basically banned Top Rank from doing fights there). I doubt they could even get the beer sponsership settled.
I do agree, but this is Pacquiao's last fight on his contract. Maybe, MAYBE Arum will take GBP's deal to accept step aside money to allow GBP to promote the whole fight. They said they'll pay Arum for the service of Pacquiao and they'll handle everything. Basically the same deal Arum proposed to GBP for Mares to fight Donaire. Highly doubtful though
There's next to zero chance of the fight happening as long as Arum is invovled. No way in hell would he accept any step aside money. Neither side is inclined to talk to eachother. There are also serious issues in terms of the network, venue, and sponsors. Recently, Arum said that HBO would have to be involved in the broadcasting of the fight. Let's keep in mind that Pacquiao has no contract with HBO. Does anyone really think that Espinoza, after signing Mayweather to a gigantic deal, would allow HBO to get in on the broadcasting rights when there is no contractual reason to do so? That would make zero sense. Unless Pacquiao leaves Top Rank or unless Arum is no longer associated with Top Rank, a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight is little more than a pipe dream.
If Porter doesn't fight Mayweather or Pacquiao, he'll be stripped of his title if he doesn't fight Brook. So he would have to beat Brook, and then Thurman.
If he beats Brook in his mandatory, I reckon his name should be pretty high up on the Mayweather sweepstakes.
