You Kovalev fans are too much. You want to complain about him not getting the big fights but his real opponents are all on another network and with the same promoter. You can't have it both ways. He needs to either switch to their team or you need to stop complaining about people ducking him when you know damn well those fights can't happen because of promoters and networks and he chose loyalty instead of going to the other side.
Once a upon a time, Stevenson and Pascal was on HBO. And they they ran to another network to avoid a fight with Kovalev, especially Stevenson.
I think you're overselling this Kovalev guy. Which top-tier 175er has he beaten to qualify him as the 168 Andre Ward of 175 anyway? At least this is as some apparent raw power loving dudes are wanting to say he already is? Cleverly? On another note, ME/Kathy Duva having gotten Kovalev a multi-fight deal with HBO doesn't by itself constitute a good promotions job for Kovalev. It is the fights they get for him going forward - and how he performs in them - that will. I guess ME now have their work on Kovalev cut out for them. More so, seeing as even the Jean Pascal rug has essentially been pulled from underneath Duva's feet. Things shouldn't be beyond Duva to eventually get back on track with other promoters/network on this matter, though. P34c3
If he went to showtime, Stevenson still would not fight him. I don't think he's unbeatable, Stevenson clearly just does not want to touch him.
Kovalev is up a creek in a boat with a slow leak and no paddle. Plus it appears he can't swim and the people he brought can't swim either. Man, that's fukked up.
I think you're arguing for argument sake. At the end of the day Hopkins fought Dawson, and that's all that matters. Had he not fought him your accusation of him ducking Dawson will have substance but that is not the case. As for Ward, Ward have not called out nor show interest in fighting Hopkins, so how can Hopkins be accused of docking Ward? You blame him for for showing interest in fighting Mayweather, so please tell us which fighter wouldn't accept the opportunity and reward which fighting Mayweather provides. Mayweather is the number one fighter in the world, fighting and beating him at almost 50 not only increases the historic standing of Hopkins but it also guarantees him his highest payday since fighting De la Hoya. Look if you don't like Hopkins be bold and just say it, but don't try to smear a fighter who have consistently fought the best fighter around his weight class through out his career. Why you so insecure that you have to go out of your way to smear Hopkins?
Poor guy He received no money for his first 17 or so fights, a time where he lived in his manager's place (who gave Kov some spending money to make ends meet), only got 20k fighting campillo and white on NBC sports, couldnt afford a robe for his championship fight vs Cleverly, a fight where he barely got 100k despite knocking out the champ He finally gets a big promoter and goes to a major station in HBO, and again he's **** out of luck... IDK if he has terrible judgement, or if he has terrible luck
Not to mention in his first main event Sergey did over a million homes and overall hbo has the bigger budget then showtime
Promoters and managers need to stop signing exclusive rights for television coverage. They need to have HBO, Showtime, ESPN, etc. bidding on airing fights on a fight by fight basis. That way people can start making all of the good fights we're missing out on and they get the networks competing over who can offer the best deal. Anyone can fight anyone and get paid the most available for doing it. The fighters and fans both win. If HBO or Showtime want to keep a fighter, they have to keep beating other network bids.
They ran to Showtime for more money. If kovalev was smart he'd do the same. More money and the fights that he wants but for some dumb reason his fans want him to remain loyal and stay with his current promoter and network but cry about guys ducking him it's unbelievable really.
