    Champion: Vacant
    1. Floyd Mayweather
    2. Manny Pacquiao
    3. Timothy Bradley
    4. Juan Manuel Marquez
    5. Shawn Porter
    6. Marcos Maidana
    7. Keith Thurman
    8. Robert Guerrero
    9. Devon Alexander
    10. Paulie Malignaggi

Above are the Transnational Boxing Board's welterweight rankings at the beginning of the weekend. Porter has obviously just beaten #10 Malignaggi very convincingly. So my question is - should this win result in Porter's moving above Marquez to #4? Or should Porter remain at #4?

    Your thoughts please.

No. Alexander is solid but nothing great. Malignaggi is C-class

not good enough wins to be put over Marquez after KOing Pac and a loss to a top 10 p4p fighter.

Well, it's clear that he's no lower than 5th.

True toss up. A lot of me wants to go with Porter and thinks he deserves it, but at the same time JMM's third and fourth fights with Pacquiao are so meaningful to a WW ranking that regardless of inactivity and the Bradley defeat, JMM still has a case to be made.

At WW, JMM was shutout by Mayweather, lost to Pacquiao, knocked Pacquiao out cold, and lost to Bradley. That's a 1-3 record. I'd give Porter the nod for the number 4 spot.

I can't see ranking him any higher at the moment, since JMM has the potential to beat Bradley or Pac if he fought them now, but I don't think Porter has shown that in my opinion. Nor is it clear Porter would beat JMM.

As a near 40 massive underdog moving up in weight, JMM deserves tons of credit for his third fight with Pacquiao even if you somehow managed to score it for Pacquiao. Especially depending on where you ranked Pac at the time, which to most was #1/2 P4P and #1/2 WW.

If we are ranking guys based on how the fight should've been judged, then Bradley is 3-2 at WW. And there's an asterik next to the Provo fight as that should've been ruled a KD in round 1, which would've cost Bradley the win. So either Bradley or Marquez has to go down in the rankings.

Maidana and Guerrero ranked too high.

I would put Alexander above Maidana, put in Kell Brooke and drop Guerrero.

I think Maidana and Alexander at this moment is clearly a case of the man who lost the H2H fight having surpassed his former conqueror in merit.

Only in merit because he beat an incredibly overrated fighter in Broner, who is basically on Paulie's level.

I'll take Alexander's Maidana victory over Maidana's victory over Broner any day of the week.

People forget Alexander beat Maidana 10-0 in their fight.

    Tough call.

I have to mistrust the immediate "**** no" boiling up, it being no secret I love the one and hate the other. (in terms of their styles)

...but it might just be that my objective and honest answer is also no.

Close whichever. Stripping it down to just the facts it would be tough even with a 100% neutral viewpoint. You have Marquez technically only 1-3 in the division (bearing a threefold cross of: the close loss to Bradley, controversial loss in Pacquiao III, humiliatingly one-sided loss to Mayweather) ...but the one success is a doozy, that KO6 - versus Porter with a solid rack of scalps but none even approaching that one.

Is knocking out Manny Pacquiao better than clearly - if not easily, in some cases - beating Malignaggi, Alexander, Gomez, Kidd Diaz in the rematch, and Robinson? (his five best to date, and those comprising all his steps up to anyone reasonable except maybe for the addition of Adjaho)

    :think

Quality (much higher quality) vs. quantity (heck of a lot more quantity)
