So I spoke to him. I told him basically what the hell was up with other day throwing me in the ring with two pro guys and he said that won't happen again. I told my confidence is down and such and basically didn't say much and I just need to patient. He also been stating he'll get me a fight as he put a bunch of our names in and he got 4 other guys a fight and told me I may have to wait to September as he's not sure. He did tell me though to come tomorrow morning and he'll work with me with mitts and stuff. He knows im pissed off though I think. I'm still not happy. I'll see if anything changes within 1-2 weeks, if im not, i'll find another gym.
He's gonna get you a fight when you dont even know how to spar??? dont you think hes running before you walk? this coach seems dumb
I don't know. My gym gets a lot of people fights who aren't the best yet, but they'll never have you fight against some guy who is like undefeated. Most peopel's first fights are vs. other people's first fights.
Yeah. I'll go tomorrow morning when it will likely be just me and two others with him and im going to say something to him again, this time sounding a little more pissed, because today he barely let me finish talking. Everytime I have something to say he just says like "I got you" "Be patient"..he mentioned a drill well do for my footwork yet we didnt do it at all today. Sucks because not many gyms in my area. There's one MMA gym that has a great Boxing coach who trains Golden Glove guys, but the gym is freakin 140 per month.
The guy i fought in my first fight also had 0 fights but he had 2 years in the gym i had 3 months... granted i still won but just because someone doesnt have a lot of fights doesnt mean anything
The main gym owner/trainer has his own guys and would probably charge me 1on1 private training prices along with my monthly fee. I'm going to wait if anything changes, if not i'm out. All there is near me are mainly MMA gyms that offer Boxing and many have reputable Head boxing coaches, but thing is, the monthly feeis crazy and I would have to then attend the scheduled boxing classes. I found a few that have a boxing team, but I don't know how that works. I don't want to just be one of those guys showing up to the scheduled class just trying to get fit. The gym I go to now is your old school type gym. Maybe if I went to one of those gyms and told the head coach my situation and how i'd like to compete, he'd work something out, but he'd likely charge me private training. I really like boxing. I don't really have any future plans like turning pro, but I still want to compete and do tournys and get good. If this doesn't work out, I don't know. Maybe try out BJJ or something and compete in that.
My gym is also an "old school" type gym where it mostly 1 on 1 training... i mean in the end you have to do what you have to do... even if it is earning your stripes with this trainer or if it is switching to a new trainer/gym
Yeah, I don't know what to do. Really no old school gyms near me. Just those MMA ones with Boxing like I said, but do have reputable coaches.
In the l;tong run it all depends on your goals, do you want to go pro? be a top amateur, be a competitor in the amateur scene? or just have fun?
Right now my goals are to be a competitive amateur and get good. Do some tournaments possibly Golden Gloves down the road. Right now no pro.
Work on your general movement, if you have trouble picking things up it's likely that you're not generally a good athlete? That doesn't mean you can't be but you need to work on your movement. Find a weightlifting coach and learn those movements, you'll then find all movements easier to perform and you'll be more explosive. The stronger you are the easier it is to learn movements as you don't require as much activation to do the same thing. When I boxed there were so many guys who were so focused on conditioning and completely neglected strength (boxing traditions concerning weights don't help) and I'd see them get weaker and weaker and get burned out, instead of improving their skills they'd just work on improving their work rate. They were punching bags but they could keep going. When you're good at something you do less work, improve your strength/skills and do less work.
