Managing Director of K2 Promotions Tom Loeffler, who handles Golovkin, had this to say on the matter

"It's well known that Gennady Golovkin - when he fights in the United States - is under exclusive contract with HBO. Lara is with Golden Boy and fights on Showtime. So while he is a great fighter for whom we have a tremendous amount of respect, the bottom line is that HBO is our biggest strategic partner and it's up to his promoter to get him accepted by HBO.

"The strange thing is that his name really never came up. His insistence took us by surprise. It's not that Gennady doesn't want to fight him - he'll fight anyone and continues to prove that. But we were looking at fighters who we know can and will fight on HBO."

Well that's radically different from Quillin's reasons for not fighting Golovkin!

Or at least change television networks... I love these guys calling out GGG while peaking over the great network divide, knowing the fights can't happen (or at least are extremely difficult to make happen.)

This is a dumbass topic. completely irrelevent. GGG has a big fight coming up and so does Lara. Lara is 154lber who wanted to make a splash and generate interest to get a big fight so he called out GGG. Lara got what he wanted and thats a fight with Canelo and if he wins that fight and does so convincingly and doesnt get robbed he doesnt need to call out anyone except floyd. Lara would be the man at 154 and everyone would have to come to him. cant wait for lara/canelo which has been my dream fight for quite a while and i give canelo a lot of respect for taking it.

Golovkin would knock Lara out, look what Angulo did to him and Golovkin is far superior to Angulo. Golovkin has a fight with Chavez, Golovkin, a 160 lb. fighter fighting a 200 lb. fighter on steroids................Golovkin will still win the fight, but it will be a big money fight.

Lara gets to fight Alvarez. Should Lara refuse to fight Alvarez and fight Golovkin instead?

I don't think GGG is ducking anybody. I think he wants to make some serious cash as fast as possible and would fight every champ at 160 to unify the titles this year. I think he might also like to fight Chavez Jr and Andre Ward just for the paydays.

HBO has indicated to K2 that they will work with them as far as holding fights with GBP guys, if its a unification bout. On HBO of course. But unless Lara, or Quillin for that matter is actually under contract with SHO the fight can be made. K2 will have to be the promoter of record, and HBO will buy the fight from K2 - not GBP (K2 contracting a fighter's services from GBP but putting on the event) , and it has to be a unification bout. Then HBO will buy the fight. Those are the conditions.

Or, the opponent has to be greenlit individually. Which is pretty unlikely. HBO has indicated a willingness to bend for a unification bout though.
