Hopkins should be thanking Oscar and the Boxing Gods for what ever numbers he pulls now .He wasn't nicknamed Borenard for yes for no reason.
Since Stevenson ran away from a Kovalev fight. BHop being a bigger draw was one of the excuses that the "bizness furst" fans were clinging to. People like to talk about Hopkins fights. They don't like to watch Hopkins fights.
Like it or not, Boxing has become big business for networks and boxers are network commodities the media giants leverage competitively against one another. In this instance a boxers best choice is to go with the promoter whose river is flowing directly to the ocean, and today that would be, GBP---> Showtime. It's not Kovalev's fault (I assume) that he ended up signing with the wrong channel in the worst competitive position. That blame lies with his promoters who I mentioned earlier had never even bothered to contact Showtime prior to signing with HBO. I just hope his deal is financially strong enough for him to compensate for sitting out of many major upcoming events.
I really hope the winner does fight Kovalev .I mean as a boxing fan it just makes sense for all these guys to fight each other
If the Stevenson-Hopkins draw is big enough, it may provide motive for the networks to work together to allow the winner to face Kovalev for the LHW unification finals. At least I'm hoping that's a possiblity, and of course that also depends on Kovalev not losing his belt before then.
Hopkins got 1.2 million views vs Cloud, 1.6 million vs Chad Dawson, and 1.8 million vs Jean Pascal II on HBO he did 1 million vs Murat which is really good for Showtime.
"The second and hopefully the final fight between Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal brought in a huge rating of 1.8 million viewers for HBO Sports last Saturday night. The ratings were the highest for HBO since 2009 when WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko wiped out challenger Chris Arreola in a one-sided 10th round stoppage." There is no Hopkins draw. Stevenson is the draw in that fight. Stevenson will probably sell out the Bell Center when he fights Fonfara. Nobody cares about watching Bernard Hopkins "fight"(staring contest).:rofl
LOL. Stop hating. Stevenson said so himself at his last post fight interview that the fans wanted to see him fight Bernard Hopkins. That's right. The fans called for him to fight Hopkins in Canada. You probably heard it, but you was hating on Nard so deeply it probably slipped past your attention span. :yep He then said he asked the fans to reconsider and didn't they want him to fight Kovalve instead. The fans responded, Kova-WHO.
Kovalev is on HBO beating up bums, over the hills guys and green up and comers. Outside of Andre Ward there isn't really anyone for Kovalev to fight. Tavaris Cloud is probably around somewhere, but everyone else seems to be on Showtime. Hopkins doesn't need Kovalev at this point. Kovalev went after Cleverly instead of Hopkins in the first place, that isn't Hopkins' fault. Hopkins going after Stevenson is the move that makes sense. Stevenson beat the man the man that beat the man. If Kovalev has finally gotten some signature wins after the Hopkins vs Stevenson winner is declared, I am sure he would get the winner as soon as his contract is up with HBO.
