Because it is obvious to anyone with a brain that Kessler at Super Middleweight was better than John Ruiz at Heavyweight. Lets look at this for a second. Kessler was a unified champion that had KOed the fighters to win his belts and often won fight by KO or a clear UD. Ruiz on the other hand was a guy that hadn't had a KO in almost 5 years leading up to the Jones fight and won all of his fights by close controversial decisions while having to use the Jab and Grab which for some odd strange crazy reason he wasn't allowed to use in the Jones fight but was allowed in all fights before and since then. Are you seriously asking me this? Ruiz was a handpicked fight because he was the weakest guy with a trinket belt. Kessler was a unified champion who traveled to fight Calzaghe on his home turf. Can you not see the difference in the two fighter?
This x 1000! If we were on here discussing how Roy beat Lacy and Kessler, you could bet your life that Rico would be dismissing them.
Are you so dense that you don't realize SIZE MATTERS?? Kessler is Roy's same size, Ruiz was visibly much larger, and like it or not was a top 5 HW and a World Champion.. He had the power to floor iron chinned Holyfield, and damn near had him out on his feet... Now lets use your logic, Roy has this terrible glass jaw, doesn't a man 40 lbs larger that hurt Holyfield at HW have a better chance at knocking Roy out??:huh
You've made some good points. But I don't see how those guys would all have beaten him in 93. Also, there were two divisions between Hopkins and Roy in 1997. Hagler would have been trouble for a young Roy, but peak Roy was weighing in at 175 for his SMW fights. I can't see Hagler beating a 94/95 version of Roy. A young Roy vs 'Bomber' would have been a treat.
atsch Kessler beat Beyer and Sciaca for the titles, and had a few good wins. I just hope for your sake that you're trolling, and not being serious. Roy would never have attempted to have fought such a fighter?:rofl Yeah, I'm sure Kessler would have brought a bigger risk than burning muscle at nearly 35 to fight Tarver.
Did you read what I wrote? Obviously not. You don't hold Roy in high regard for taking Toney's zero and beating Tarver, Hopkins, Ruiz and Hill etc. So we all know that you wouldn't have credited Roy had he beaten Dariusz. Stop trying to pretend otherwise. Tarver was a great win, due to the circumstances. But you wouldn't know what that word meant, if it punched you in the face with a leaping left hook. Now why don't you go away, and compile a list of all the fighters that have a better resume than Roy, who fought in his era, around the same weight classes.
Once again, had Roy beaten Kessler, that clown would have dismissed it as a nothing win. If he doesn't credit Roy for Toney and Griffin, there's no way he'd have credited Roy for beating Kessler. The guy's a complete joke!
Roy only had about 6 fights at the weight. But his win over Toney (and possibly Malinga) trumps any win that Kessler's had at the weight. Also, could you imagine what Roy would have done to Beyer, Sciaca, Mundine and Carl Froch etc? Roy would have smashed Carl to pieces.
