sorry to tell u this but gift decisions still dont count. this wouldnt have happened had Sanchez been the defending champion

considering that Sanchez was faster on his feet than Pedroza

all we know is that,,, when Pedroza was behind, he had to rely on the judges to bail him out (same as with Ali v Young) whereas Sanchez wouldnt allow it to go to a decision

    hey I wouldnt bs you

as for Floyd v Leonard, Floyd is still unbeaten at age 38 while Leonard at age 34 fell apart like a cheap deck of cards

    hey I wouldnt bs you

bottom line with me is that Sanchez just got better, clearer results, and against a better grade of opposition. that's why he is the better featherweight

look at what happened with Taylor, & Lockridge. Pedroza lost those fights so he clearly has NOT made 19 defenses

The Taylor fight was in Taylors hometown, one of the Lockridge fights was in neutral Italy, the other in the US ,yet Pedroza lost none of them?. Nine officials would have had to be bought for those fights.

Never looked upon Pedroza as being anything other than a very good fighter. I had him losing twice to Lockridge (as noted, a very underrated fighter) and few of those many title defences really stand out as being all that impressive.

I do agree, however, that he'd have given Sanchez absolute nightmares if Sanchez and his team hadn't actively avoided Pedroza. Sanchez reminds me a lot of Juan Manuel Marquez in the sense that he needs an aggressive target to flourish against. Can't imagine him not struggling against such a slick operator.

Sanchez was greater. Boxing fans were robbed of seeing him at his peak due to an early death in a car accident.

They were robbed of seeing him against his biggest threat ,[ Pedroza,] a fight Pedroza wanted.

but Pedroza was from Panama and that's what really counted

He lost those fights but if not for fighters like Rocky & Bernard Taylor, who knows how good Pedroza might have been?

    SLICK OPERATOR? PEDROZA???

u want to see slci, watch Taylor out speed EP for 14 of the 15 rounds

Eusebio didnt have enough speed or power, the power of a Barry McGuigan or the speed of a Bernard Taylor or the workrate of a Rocky Lockridge (who outhustled him in both fights)

If u are from Panama, u can lose by a landslide and still come away with a points win while wearing a straight face (or a draw)

If Taylor had fought the right competition, I could see him beating Salvador. But he didn't, and that why his career wasn't what it was.:good

Instead, he fought and beat Pedroza who was slower both on his feet and with his hands

which means Sal a bit more experienced, and a lot more tenacious than Taylor, wouldve outpointed Pedroza

Let's not get testy just becuz I bring up a few names that proved to be Pedroza's downfall and illigitimized his title reign of 19 defenses

I wonder tho, how good could Ray Leonard have been if not for Norris breaking his 11 year unbeaten streak?

    as good as Ali maybe?

At nearly 35 after 3 retirements I don't think there was scope for any improvement in Leonard by the time he fought Norris .
Now can we get back to the thread?

This may be true Mendoza, but what if, for example, (god forbid) Donald Curry had suffered a tragic demise prior to the Honeyghan fight? Fans would possibly now speak of Curry at a similar level to SRR, SRL or other "top table" ATG welters. As it is, the Honeyghan fight & subsequent fights necessitated a considerable re-assessment of Curry's ATG standing.

The truth is, regarding Sanchez, we just don't know. Pedroza (or A.N.Other) may have been to Sanchez what Honeyghan was to Curry that night in AC.

Sanchez had had a lot of fights at a young age, we will never know for sure how things would have panned out...his fistic decline may have happened early, it may have happened later, we can only speculate...
