Win a few fights first, then start thinking about what comes next.

Sad that kids today can't just start out by working hard and growing in talent.

its so funny, every day somebody posts **** like this.. if you just search little bit you will find billion posts and answers on this question. Your goal should be to get of that chair and go shadow box or something, cause with this mentality you will get nowhere (not just in boxing)

    17 is wayyyyy too late.

Lawnbowling and curling have a much higher age bracket. Those might be your only hope.

  6. and most of them are new accounts that disappear within a week. Funny thing that :think

Everyone knows it's all down hill from 16 years old, you may as well give up on life now.

Do you need reassurance and for people to hold your hand in every aspect of your life?

Let me set this straight. I don't mean to come across as a dick, but you came here asking a question from total strangers on the internet their opinions on something that relies entirely on your level of talent, heart and motivation. Knowing full well, you expected to hear nurturing words of encouragement. (don't say that's not true, because we did not return the favour and now you're mad).

Now let me give you a serious and helpful reply.

If encouragement from random strangers on the internet are what you seek in order to pursue something you love, then you absolutely do not have what it takes to become a boxer. Boxing is a rough sport. It hurts physically, but the mental stress is even greater. You have rough days where you doubt your abilities, you lose fights, competition is stressful, you need WAY above-average discipline. Let's not sugarcoat things, you need a fair bit of resilience to not only participate in the sport, but also stick with it. Take the failures and learn from them, without letting them break you.

So let's get you the quickest possible answer, without you having to endure months or years of punishment, pain and disappointment. If you really and honestly care what we say, then you may have physical strengths, but likely not the mental - and boxing's not for you. I hope that helps, and perhaps you can find a hobby that you can be happy with.

Sven Ottke started boxing at 16 and Glen Johson at 20.

Oh and don't pay attention to the pathetic cynics here.
