Why didn't Tyson use any head movement in the Buster Douglas fight?

I was going to start a seperate thread on this. In the Tyson book by Peter Heller, a lot of people dont know this, but it was actually Rooney who severed ties with Tyson and not the other way around.
Tysons "plan" was to make Rooney sit out the Bruno fight as "punishment" for speaking out on Tysons personal life and then bring Rooney back again for the Williams fight, however Rooney sued Tyson during the same period so Tyson basically said, screw you, you're never working in my corner again. Rooney did say he was interested in training Tyson post prison but Tyson would have to come to him and we all know what happened.

When you dont train hard, it doesnt happen overnight, it catches up with you.

Most punchers, who fall in love with their power tend to do fine as long as theyre knocking people out, but then they hit a brickwall when they meet a guy with the right tangibles and a good gameplan who refuses to be knocked out

    Foreman-Ali
    Tyson-Holyfield/Douglas
    Barrera-Hamed

George Benton, Eddie Futch amongst others were approached to train Tyson after Rooney left, King decided on Snowell, Horne and Holloway because they were the cheapest option

after the Douglas loss, they bought in Giachetti, after prison, it was those 3 again, after the Holyfield they bought Giachetti in again. :patsch

I feel like this is just the hipster POV of the fight... "Tyson didn't train is too 'mainstream', and I'm a non-conformist..." is what I read every time someone says this

King decided on those three over Futch and others, because they were black and cheap (Tysons own book mentions this)

Tyson NEVER won any fights due to those 3 in his corner.

Look at all of the fights post Rooney, Tyson won purely on power, he would have done the same without them. The only time Tyson did well to a certain extent was Giachetti in his corner for the Ruddock fights. Post prison Tyson looked sharp against Francis (With Brooks in his corner)

And those 3 had no boxing knowledge at all, Snowell claims he was a fighter but apparantly all he was, was a gym rat (according to Witherspoon who knew him), he would just hang around boxing gyms. Even Holyfields trainer Don Turner, prior to the bite fight said he was confident Holyfield would win because Tyson has still got those same guys in his corner so they werent expectign anything different from Team Tyson to last time.

King controlled Tyson, he had an iromn curtain built round him, no phone calls or post was allowed to go through to Tyson unless verified and certified by King first. After Tyson left prison he became muslim, during his release party, the muslims tried to reason with Tyson to join them and leave King, King, with Tysons permission had the muslims booted out by security and afterwards Tyson laughed and said "i really ****ed them up" (referring to the muslims)

But it is well documented (moreso than others) that Tyson WAS partying prior to the fight until 4am according to some sources. Tyson himself spends a consdierable amoutn of time talking about s e x in the James Toback film, about how it takes a lot out of you and its best to restrain until after a fight. He talked about how he had 4 girls at a time

Irs not something that was just made up on the spot.

    Tyson is known as a s e x maniac

Tyson had Giachetti in his corner for the second Holyfield bout aswell. Tyson has never really been badly out of shape for any fight. Take Ali, he turned up for fights out of shape and still found a way to win whereas Tyson was stopped.

Rubbish! I can recall in the first Holyfield fight Ian Darke mentioning how hard Tyson had trained for the fight. Believe you me Tyson knew he was in the fight of his life against Holyfield.

Apparently it was too much head that done him in!

The other 2 fights where Tyson met similar stylistic opponents were against Tucker and Tubbs. With Tucker, Tyson was able to adapt and use his aggression to win a fight that could conceivably have gone either way if Mike was unable to adjust. He was able to and clearly won the fight. With Tubbs, Tyson quickly cut the power chords that gave Tubbs a successful first round. Once again he adapted, got inside and stunted Tubbs' quickness. With Douglas he was unable to replicate past success because a.) Tyson looked disinterested and wasn't prepared mentally nor physically, b.) Douglas gained confidence as the fight wore on, and c.) Tyson's corner had nothing to offer in terms of strategy or making proper adjustments.

Douglas looked good in there because Tyson was letting him.

Douglas looked good because on that night he was good! He started off aggressively and never let up. Comparing Tyson against different fighters on different night doesn't prove a thing. Believe you me when Mike felt Buster's combinations in the 1st round he would have been very interested.

    Yeah, the equation
    Tucker '87 = Douglas '90
    is far less valid than:
    Tyson '87 = Tyson '90

he sure trained hard, he was huffing and puffing after the 3rd or 4th round.

Tyson hmself stated he didn't have enough time to preprare in a sports illustrated magazine and Holyfield also alluded to this in an interview on esb a few years ago

if anything Tyson underestimated Holyfield, the commentators echoed this themselves after the fight. Yes of course Tyson knew what he was up against that's why he was mocking Holyfield and telling him he was old and had nothing left.
"Holyfields a good fighter but i knew he wasn't in my league"
i don't give a **** what Ian darke thinks when Tyson and Holyfield both feel Tyson didn't have enough time to prepare for the fight.
