At the end of the day Billy is right about some of the bad decisions we see and it's not a new thing. How many times do we see the home fighter, up and coming fighter, fighter with the right connections etc gaining favour. It's wrong and not fair on those on the wrong end. It can effect their earning potential, freeze them out of bigger and better things. It's bad news!

 

But (to play Devil's Advocate) surely it is better for boxing? The bigger name will sell more tickets, which will trickle down (after the huge blockage of the promoter) giving more money to the fighters on bigger bills, and help the economy of the sport.

Take for example Ali/Young, 15 terrible rounds in which quite a few felt Young deserved the nod. But a Young win would of taken the last bit of shine left off Ali, we would probably then of had to sit though another 15 rounds of tedium and almost certainly had another datable decision.

Ali getting the win, deserved or not, helped the sport overall.

I think if you win the fight you should get the decision. Imagine if Young had knocked Ali out. What are we gonna say then, "the wrong man won the fight, it will be bad for boxing, we'll dq him". As it happens that is actually something else that has gone on over the years.

 

King and the WBC tried that after Tyson/Douglas...

I suppose Coggi/GonzalesI is an example of it actually happening! Sure the ref got banned, but who knows how much he was paid off?! The reality is Coggi kept his title and boxing carried on, so was it really that bad?
