Showtime is trying to build its boxing brand up. So if they take a loss it's what they are willing to risk.

its a product of how floyd fought in the worst era ever that contains no other superstars. He is so over paid for what he is its beyond belief. It just goes to show how broken boxing is. one guy getting 32 million and other titlist like GGG who has 8 or 9 title fights has failed to make 1 million dollars 1 time :rofl
you will never see them throw out purses like this again when he retires. it will be back to reality

Wow you really have no business sense do you? It doesn't matter if its a crap fight or not. If the public can be tricked into buying it, it's worth something. Imagine ****** Bieber vs Floyd Mayweather. Sure, it would be over in 2 seconds and would be one of the most lopsided battles in human history. But I bet they could get people to pay to see it. It's not about how difficult the task is, its about how much money people are willing to pay to see you do that task.

Yes, because Showtime gets endorsement money from alot of companies that nay or may not be listed/displayed in their advertisement.

Back in August of 2007 when Kevin Johnson fought Damian Wills on Showtime (Not PPV), many companies paid for sponsorships/endorsements/etc. Home Depot, a Georgia grown company paid over $500.000 just to cover the cost of the programs that were given out to the first 500 fans. So Showtime earned roughly $499,500 for doing nothing. Coca-Cola paid Showtime a **** ton of money just to be the primary soda at the arena (dance hall).

Now imagine how many big companies throw away millions of dollars at Major Sporting Events for no reason, especially when they can just declare the expense on taxes & re-coup the expense.

Look at the Super Bowl ads, they cost 2 million dollars for 30 seconds.

My guess is probably not. Say the fight does $1 million buys. That's $75 million. The Cable/Satellite providers make 50 %, leaving $37.5 million for the Showtime end. Mayweather gets $32 million, Maidana $1.5, Khan and undercard fighters probably $3 million combined, and Mayweather gets more based on PPV.

Not sure how the live gate figures into the equation, and sponsorships etc. My guess is Showtime barely breaks even, and will need another blockbuster to make money.

I figure the corporate types at CBS are willing to take a loss in able to try and knock HBO off its perch as the leader in premium cable sports.

The problem I see now is that Showtime doesn't have Floyd and many of the best fighters. They are mostly on PPV. For at least the first half or more of 2014. Showtime subscribers won't see Mayweather, Canelo, Khan, Broner, Santa Cruz, Maidana, and Angulo for their $15 a month. It almost makes more sense to not subscribe to Showtime and save for PPV's.

I'm sure HBO is satisfied with their deciision. While it hurts to lose the best PFP fighter, his demands were simpy too high and there aren't enough big names to make for the sort of blockbuster events that merit a $200 contract.

I will give Mayweather and Haymon a TON of credit for taking a fighter who's not typically fan pleasing and turning him into the best ever in making money from boxing. I'm not crying for Showtime since CBS is backing them and I doubt they will go broke anytime soon.

Not so long as he's content to win by decision and not even try for the stoppage. He isn't beating anybody up or stopping anybody. I'm probably done buying his fights, honestly.

LOL. Mayweather doesn't make $32M because of Maidana, or Khan, or Canelo.
Mayweather earns this amount because he is p4p the number 1 boxer in all of boxing. The reason is makes this much is becasue the highest bidder won the right to televise his fights, and this had nothing to do with his opponent or how he wins the fight.

GGG? Who the hell is he? LOL. He doesn't even rate to be on the p4p top 30. LMAO!
