That wouldn't have been too difficult, especially given the fact that Sports Illustrated never even covered the fight. :patsch

I'm really surprised u would say that and back yourself into a corner once again.

why would u do that to yourself goyourownway? do u have a subscription going back before the date?

I can tell u roughly what the content consisted of as I do not have it on hand but can retrieve it when I so wish. It was so laoded with bvllshlt that I shuffled it in with my collection of Marvel Comics & other assorted fantasy mags

In fact, this was the issue where the writer greatly relied upon his imagination, wisely stayed off the subject of the fight and instead paid tribute to the overhyped media creation, saying "Ray Leonard beat a combination of opponents with a combined record of ....." and looking back fondly on what for others would have amounted to an abbreviated career.

again, no mention of the fight itself nor the victor and his overwhelming brilliant domination, no mention of Ray's failure to catch the fleetfooted upstartand teach him the valuable lesson that "experience against superior competition is what counts"

same as in the contest between the vastly more experienced Pedroza vs B. Taylor with 14 fights

Of course, why use an actual source when you can just make up mythical quotes inside of your head, eh? Worked well enough with your citation of Vito Antuofermo's breakdown/analysis of the Leonard-Hagler fight.

I hate to break it to ya, Elton, but Sports Illustrated opened up their archives several years back. There's a massive collection of old, in-depth articles available to the public, including many, many boxers. There's a grand total of two articles written on Pedroza, and neither related to the Taylor fight. :thumbsup

Obviously an error on my part, though it's fairly easy to make that mistake given your ability to mix the Norris-Leonard fight into just about any topic on this board.

By the way, tell me more about these childrens cartoon magazines that you were still collecting while pushing thirty.

Yeah, collecting comic books over the age of 40 is much less degrading than collecting them at 30.

According to your 'KingAbdullah' alias you're 52.

Quality over quantity. Tho Pedroza is a legend himself, I don't think he beats Nelson, much less Sanchez, tho I think he would rough him up abit, stylistically give Sanchez problems, but Sanchez had the better stamina and either stops or dominates El Alacran late in the fight, Pedroza even at his best had been down several times. Sanchez also had the better chin and defense. I think Pedroza would underestimate Sanchez forgetting he was a ko puncher before he turned boxer/puncher. It would be close, but I wouldn't pick anyone to beat Sanchez at 126. He had it all. Pedroza would try to make it a fight, where Sanchez shined best, counterpunching and knowing how to finish in style. Voted Fighter of the Year sharing honors with Sugar Ray Leonard thats pretty huge deal.

No Curry as talented as he was had not beaten 2 atgs before Honeyghan or at anytime. McCrory or Starling were very good wins, but definitely not in the same league as a Gomez or Nelson. Sanchez was always in shape and had some of the best stamina in any sport. If Sanchez is usually picked favorite in fantasy fights it's from his sensational wins at the highest level. LaPorte and Nelson, who've fought everyone there was to fight in the 80s and 90s, both claim Sal was the best. And thats saying alot considering between both fighters theyve fought Chavez, Whitaker, Tszyu, Fenech, Pedroza, among others.

Call me crazy, but Prince Naseem gives both of them all they can handle. In his prime for about 2 years, he was as dominant as any fighter who ever fought.
