Without Richard Shaefer Golden boy would be nothing.

i realize this....but what you have to take into consideration is oscar is the name of the company...the face...richard handles all of the other stuff...he helped build from ground up....and is responsible for its success....richard has been there pretty much from the start so i dont think the apple comparison is too far off.....and unlike jobs he has a great relationship with his coworkers/employees.....i think it would be ruining a good thing...why take a chance with the unkown....

 

How much does Schaefer himself own of the company?

TBH I think Oscars name carried the company, at the start fighters flocked into the company because it had Oscar tied to it. Even Pacquiao who was a big Oscar fan signed with GBP when he met with Oscar.

CEO's like Schaefer are replaceable. Other smart business men can negotiate the same deals, recruit the right staff, the GBP brand is what matters most.

 

i dont disagree entirely....yes at the beginning oscars name carried alot of weight....that and it being a company for "the fighters"....but i think at this point that doesnt mean as much anymore.....sure its enticing for a young fighter to meet oscar and say "im going to work for oscars company"....but at this point theyve had a good run and i think the relationship dick has with fighers and the success hes had running it holds as much, if not, more weight than oscars name now

 

If you were a gbp shareholder wouldn't u be a little concerned that your CEO doesn't push for fighters to sign contracts with the company? N that he is full of praise for the manager, who is in no way required to answer to gbp, that holds the contracts?

 

I'd be thinking my CEO had an agenda.

My favorite part of the countdown was when Floyd gave that kid his baseball cap. The boy was stunned.

 

i honestly think...and im not trying to be biased here....that the whole fight to fight deal thing is the wave of the future.....you even hear rumors of pac thinking of doing it(who knows if thats sincere or not).....

i dont think its a terrible thing...and i dont think its a threat to golden boy as a company....because they are the top name in the game right now.....and i see no reason for a fight to fight situation doing anything to cripple them....its not like some fighter is going to work with GB and then suddenly jump to work with gary shaw, goosen, or lou dibella....those guys cant play with golden boy....i think GB is comfortable and secure with who they are to not have to sign fighters to 5 or 6 fight deals

i agree....i think it would be sad for them to break this relationship up....i also think it would be bad for GB as a company....i think they need to work this out...oscar needs to trust that richard is doing the right things

 

That's all well and good but investors and shareholders dont really see things that way. They see a CEO giving all the real power to a guy who is in no way answerable to the company. All I hear is how boxing is a business. Giving a third party that much power is not good business and there's no way it can be spun.

The stadium is for Pac/May. If there is no fight agreed, why would he build a stadium? I mean sure Arum isn't building a stadium regardless, but use some common sense before you try be a smart ass.

 

With hbo top rank refusing to work with al dick had lots n lots of leverage to get ALS fighters to sign with gbp and he didn't take advantage. Where is the brilliance in that? He gave al that power on a golden plate. If the agenda isn't clear...
