Kim just confirmed through Loeffler they're moving on. The Chavez-TR issue couldn't be resolved, and that's after Arum told the LA Times they were trying to make a deal with Chavez without an extension. I'd like to see the Quillin fight happen, but GB/Haymon could be unreasonable or even Hershman may refuse. If not maybe Kessler? All other top MW's are tied up for a July fight. And even Andre Ward who's still fighting his promoter through April '16.
Maybe Kirkland will move up if the price is right. . . . Who knows? GGG really needs to fight to stay busy!
Definitely! If ANYONE was going to ice Chavez, it was Golovkin. And if anyone was going to test Golovkin's heart it'd be Chavez.
This fight falling through also means Chavez to GBP/Haymon looks like a sure thing, as well. They'll just bump him up to 175 for a name value fight against the other light heavies in their stable.
Murray's fighting Bursak in July and Sturm's fighting Soliman at the end of May. Geale/Macklin, Lemieux/Guerrero, Froch/Grovces are all fighting in late May as well, with Sergio in June. HNN is injured til winter. Luckily Andy Lee is booked already. Anne Wolfe has said no to the Kirkland fight, to which I'm thankful. Worst case scenario we're stuck with Brian Vera, which is a huge let down. Could get Rubio, while not a ***y fight, Rubio is possibly a better fighter than either Macklin or Geale and with his WBC title, could force the Martinez fight. I'm hoping Quillin or Kessler.
If Geale beats Macklin on May 24th, then Geale returns to where he was before the Barker fight as the best fight available for Golovkin other than the winner of Sergio/Cotto.
Don't know about to GBP, but Haymon maybe so. With the growing Oscar/Schaeffer feud, Haymon may steer fighters away from GB. Supposedly Al Haymon is having some big meeting with all his fighters (union) this weekend for a big announcement (see Boxing Socialist). At any rate, TR is not looking good having essentially lost their two brightest young fighters (though who knows how long Chavez may have lasted after a fight with GGG).
Chavez vs. Bika on Showtime after Chavez finishes up his Top Rank contract on HBO, probably against a tomato can.
You're probably right, mentally I don't think his fire might be there anymore. He put everything into the last Froch fight and still came up short. He just can't pull the trigger on his punches in last few years. Then there's still the eye thing.
