was len harvey the youngest pro EVER (Age 12)

    hard to believe, but it is true. i even saw a pic of him at age 12.

    anyone ever been younger???

    Not that I know of, but some fighters like Freddie Steele and Cuevas started at 14.

    yeah, several turned pro at 14.......especially latins.

    i think that tommy farr turned pro at 13.

    but 12??? never came across such a young pro.

    I find this subject fascinating to say the least, I'd heard of Len Harvey but always assumed there was some sort of error with his birthdate a la Archie Moore, and that he was actually a few years older.

    Can someone explain to me how prepubescent 9-12 year olds can compete in a boxing ring of of all places, against fully grown men? I can't get my head around it.

    I'd guess in a lot of cases there was 'unofficial' age based match making going on.
