I think there is very much a question regarding Hearns. I think May makes a very good fight against Leonard, also. People are overreacting to the winning performance of a 37 year old. At this same point in his career, Leonard was 2 years departed from being schooled by Norris and awaiting the embarrassing beatdown from Camacho. Yet, folks are going over their skis about May's performance Saturday night.

Also, when current champs are questioned regarding their position in the all time pantheon, they are almost always sold short, especially by older fighters and spectators. It has been this way for the history of the sport. Marciano was considered a B-rater by Dempsey, Joe Louis no match for Jack Johnson by any old times, Dempsey no match for McVea and Jeanette by JohnsonÂ… on and on...

Definitely. I grew up in the 80's and 90's and can remember as clear as day how unappreciated Pernell whitaker and Caesar Chavez were. I think its how the human brain works. Everything seems better in hindsight. Just a few months after Mayweather outboxed Saul alvarez, someone on here tried to tell me how it was a crap win and that Alvarez was too green. I mean really? A 43-0 champion in his prime with two belts and coming fresh off a win over another rising talent. Nothing the man does will be fully appreciated until he's been gone for 20 years.

And the problem EVERYONE else has is the way you intentionally try to exaggerate Leonards achievements.

As YOU and everyone else knows he beat Benitez BEFORE he lost to the CAREER Lightweight Duran.

THEN he went on the 11 year unbeaten run that the Rooster referred to.

It suits your agenda though to spread your bull****, not least of which is the the 2 wins you credit him with over Tommy Hearns when one was in fact a draw.

And even by your pathetic standards clinging on to the points win over a pushing 39 year old Duran is pretty desperate.

"Hearns twice" - d 1st was n exhaustion induced l8 stoppage over a starved and dehydr8ed Hearns, whom never fought again @ 147.

2nd was in fact a formal draw , in which a starved & dehydr8ed yet again (this time by a catchw8 stipulation) Hearns, was robbed of d victory by d judges after flooring Leonard 2:0.

Same with Benitez: 2 dehydr8ed and never made 147 again after their fight.
Same with Duran in their rematch.

Kalule was drained of course @ 154 as can be seen in d Magnes Palle quotations which I was in4med about.

Now remember drained Lalonde and waiting 4 Hagler 2 openly declare d end of his career after d Mugabi fight, and only then signing in 2 fight him after having d ring, gloves, duration of d fight, judges and what not his way, or else no fight and no big c@$h 4 d diminished Hagler. And even then he needed a gift from d judges.

When Leonard did not fight w8 drained fighters, he either struggled against lame opponents or just plain lost.

One example = your argument as thoroughly and decisively smashed as Hagler's ego was after he got embarrassed in front of the entire world by a shot, inactive, one-eyed coke fiend (find me some similar examples in history of that happening, Elton.)

Edit: don't inform Elton of the odds of such fights as Louis-Schmeling 1, Pacquiao-Barrera 1, Honeyghan-Curry, Toney-Holyfield, Mosley-Margarito, Raheem-Morales, Hopkins-Trinidad (though the chances of him having seen even three of these fights is as limited as it gets.)

 u mean Leonard was lucky it wasnt Norris in front of him instead of Howard, Gerlado, & Kalule or his time wouldve come that much sooner

Ray could never handle a boxer with slick moves like Norris. Everyone thought Ray was going to take that fite easy except for me becuz of my ability to analyze strengths N weaknesses and determine a clear winner. even so, I was astonished by Terry's mastery over a man that had not lost a fight in 11 years and who faced vastly superior competition. Ray with his vast edge in experience SHOULD have been able to compensate and make it a close fight but becuz of the fact he was only a runner, Ray felt uncomfrotable taking the lead and never liked getting caught coming in

Hey, what can I say? your guy lost. but that's the way it is. Had Ray faced a few more live bodies instead of spending so much time going after the walking wounded, he mightve done better

    but I doubt it

there are none simply becuz of the fact u made this one up too. why would I duck replying to a post from a lying coward like yourself?

one eyed coke addict? according to whom, Leonard's physician who cleared him to fight?

 see what a liar u are simpleton?

In fact, I would say that the only coke addict around here is yourself

and the only one who was shot was Hagler, the reason why Leonard called him out after six years, doing commentary for Hagler's HBO fights and never once declaring "I can beat him" until 1986

and it is a good thing for Ray becuz we would have another result similar to Norris - leonard or Camacho - Leonard

that's nothing new. I retired years ago simply becuz Im in a better financial position than u, someone who must continually find new clients or face starvation

u work with your back, and I work with my mind which is always better. working with one's mind befits someone who has a superior education, and the skills to go along with it

I dont know what you're going to do when u get older. I suggest doing a workout video if u dont want to work like a donkey all your life

    Sonnyboy.

Join your other ******ed Leonard fanboys in the sewers that you dwell.

Just keep typing revisionist GARBAGE that you Leonard fanboys wish was true, so that the ROOSTER can shoot you DOWN, again.

I particularly like the one that claims " Leonard beat Hearns TWICE " DOH!!!!!!

    Or how about,

During Leonards UNBEATEN 11 year run between 25th November 1980, and 9th of February 1991, ( which actually wasn't 11 years ) his FANBOYS include Wilfredo Benitez, who actually fought him ONLY once, on the 30th November, 1979.

Leonard was a 5'11 middleweight who cut weight,
Mayweather is a 5'8 Lightweight who eats fast food.

Anyone would struggle with Mayweather's defense, but Leonard was just to big, strong and powerful for him.
