Tate, Ali, Green, Page, Thomas, he's got a great core there, but no. Even feeling as you do about Lennox Lewis you surely have to admit that the addition of Lewis to that resume puts him over the top?
That's a tough one. McCall was never stopped or at least not in the conventional way that most of us see a stoppage. His longevity kills Berbick's. His win over Lewis is better than any Berbick ever recorded. I might give Trevor the edge in depth, but only slightly. He did manage to beat Tate, Thomas, Page and Green when they were all prime. But again none of those wins top Oliver's win over Lewis and if we ad McCall's scalps over Seldon, Damiani, Maskaev and Akinwande it sort of narrows the gap even in the depth department.
The way I see it, Page and Thomas were rated just as highly in 1982 and 1986, as Lewis was in 1994. They were just as good or perceived in a similar way. The fact that, for whatever reasons, Lewis went on to become better and achieve more, while Page and Thomas fell off badly, shouldn't degrade Berbick's wins or upgrade McCall's win. John Tate was possibly deserving of top 3, behind Weaver and Holmes, when Berbick came along. And Weaver had barely beaten him. So, another top-flight win for Berbick.
Yeah, but his three good W's there outshine the five you mentioned for Berbick, all things considered.
If post Ali = 1980 ( Ali's loss to Holmes ) to 2014, we are talking about 34 years of boxing. I feel this 34 years was better than what we saw from 1960-1980, or 1930-1960 by a good margin. Top ten. 1 Holmes 2 Lewis 3 Vitali K 4 Tyson 5 Wlad K 6. Holyfield 7. Bowe 8. Witherspoon 9. Byrd 10. Moorer 1-8 here make my top 25 all time.
Top ten in approximate order: Lewis Foreman * Holmes Tyson Wlad Holyfield Vitali Bowe Byrd Douglas * I'm counting in Foreman's earlier pre-1978 work.
I doesn't rub off on McCall though, not for me. I think Pinklon Thomas was as good as a pre-Steward Lewis. ... or close .... and Berbick has much better supporting resume ... etc. ..... anyway, McG, I said top 5 or top 10, and now I'm arguing about your #13 or something. :fire :good
I'll take a Baker's Dozen there Todd 1- Tyson 2- Holmes 3- Holyfield 4- Lewis 5- Wlad 6- Bowe 7- Vitali 8- Spoon 9- Thomas 10- Byrd 11- Weaver 12- Moorer 13- Ruiz
Good list. :good The top 9 is pretty much identical to how I'd have it. Not so sure about Byrd and Ruiz.
