Floyd Mayweather vs Ray Leonard...

well, Camacho was a 5-6 superfeather/coke addict who ate fast food and Leonard wasnt too big for him

if anything, Camacho overpowered the bigger man. I love Ray but Mayweather is all wrong for him

 

LOL...Oh yeah, Trevor Berbick beat Ali too, so I guess that means that a big, strong modern day guy like... I don't know, Alex Leapai would have beaten him in his prime?

 

Lets get this straight then.

The 5' 10" Leonard who would have to weigh in at 147 the same as Mayweather would be too big and strong for him, but the 5' 10 and a half Diego Corrales who had to weigh in at 130 ( whom I am led to believe was a full blown Welter by fight time ) the same as Mayweather, and had 27 stoppage wins out of 33 fights going in couldn't possibly have been too big and strong for him?

Personally I wouldn't put money on Mayweather ( boom boom ) but the too big and strong argument is garbage in my opinion. However it would be a close fight, with the amount of skill Mayweather possessed in his prime.

Camacho was 35 with a beating from Chavez 5 years earlier so bad it was wonder he was given a license to continue boxing

lissen punk, this was a fair fight. No one was saying any different before the fight began and Ray was favored as well. Everyone thought Ray was going to splatter Hector all over the canvas and teach the loudmouth a lesson

The problem? first, Ray's chin had a tendency to get him in trouble in fights going all the way back to WIllie Rodriquez to Marcos Geraldo lol: anyone see that fight?) to the diminutive Kevin Howard - the famous fight in which Ray was in the middle of a shuffle and Kevin stuffed his fist down Ray's throat?

Kevin was just a LITTLE squirt, with most of his weight distributed towards his lower extremities, with just a tiny % going to his shoulders and little girl arms. That's why he was selected as an opponent

Remember: to be considered as an attrative opponent for Leonard, the worse u look in a fight, the better u look to Ray!

so as I was saying, even though Hector was several divsions smaller than Ray, he was easily selected considering he had really LOST to 45 year old Duran. Even tho Ray was much bigger physically, Hector had the better chin and the bigger heart. In other words, he had more inside where it counts

Hector was also the SMARTER fighter which is why Ray never had a chance and knew that once u hert Ray leonard or wreck any part of his anotomy, he's finished

and make no mistake about it, Hector damaged Ray physically in the fight

hector, who is a second degree black belt and well known for being an accomplished street fighter, knew that the way to beat Leonard is to hurt him. Every opportunity he got, he'd sneek in shots inside just before the ref broek them. he was soo quck about it, the ref never saw it so there was noting Ray could do!

then in the fifth, Hector unloaded another couple of shots to the temple and u could see the effects on Ray's face who was now woozy and moaning from his mortal wounds was ready to give up the ghost. This is what great fighters do, they wear down their opponents in the manner of a Marciano, a Marvin Hagler. and just like the great finishers they were, so too was Camacho, decking Ray and almost killing him. and certainly would have had not the ref stepped in to halt the carnage

bottom line: was Hector too small for him to beat him from pillar to post?

obviously not! and neither would Floyd (however the pick here is Floyd by wide UD)

 

isnt that something how these fabricators perpetuate myths, and we keep dissproving them

the myth that Ray is suddnely some great big destroyer likened to a Julian Jackson when all he really was was a runner. from guys like Floyd, Ray would certainly eat speed N leather all nite long!

 

Sugar Ray Leonard was 41 years old, and had been retired for SIX YEARS you fool! He was older and less active than Ali.

Leonard was inactive for 2 years when he fought Howard, and outside of 15 seconds, he beat him silly.

Anybody stupid enough to say that Hector Camacho, who ran like a theif from DLH, Trinidad, and Rosario, had a better heart than SRL is really too stupid to argue with, but I'll continue.

Camacho had been fighting as a welterweight for YEARS, he fought Trinidad THREE YEARS BEFORE THAT, and fought De La Hoya A FEW MONTHS LATER.

Oh of course, and we all know that Diego Corralles was as great as Sugar Ray Leonard. Especially Joshua Clottey and Casamayor, SRL wouldn't have a chance against them.

He hasn't had a chance to respond to you yet, but when he does, he'll come back with how Leonard was favored over Camacho and Norris and how he sees no visible evidence on film that Leonard lost anything from 1982 to 1997. Age and inactivity are irrelevant to him when it comes to Leonard, but it seems to apply perfectly when defending the fighters he's partial to, ie. Marvin Hagler, Terry Norris, etc...Years ago, I thought he was just trying to stir the pot, but now I am really starting to think he actually believes what he's writing. Its all a waste of time and energy.

what's more, by the turn of the 80s, Hector was no longer the blinding fstreak he once was whom no one could accurately see in action. gone were the quicksilver moves of the fastest fighter on the planet and replaced by an imposter and coke addict. Hector was a badly beaten & bruised, many say ruined after the Chavez fight, and losing other fights to Haugen & trinidad, so Hector was really a alot more banged up than Leonard and at an unconscionable size disadvantage.

as for Howard, if I were u I wouldnt brag about it since he was nothing more than an unranked fighter with a 20-4 record who put Ray down. I thought that made Ray look very bad, and certainly not worhty of an all time great staus. the knockout by Camacho cemented that opinion

now I would say you have a problem. if you deny that Leonard could overcome such obstacles such as a five year layoff, then you would conclude Hagler was shot and Ray's win was meaningless becuz he just waited for a stiff and then take the fight

its too bad he oesnt have a few extra meaningfull wins and deliberately priced himself out of the Pryor fight (out of fear) becuz I think wins over Aaron & Curry, at THAT TIME, wouldve brought him the respectability his fans feel he deserves and MAYBE even put him on the same level as Marvin Hagler

 

Diego Corrales was as good in his division ( which Mayweather fought in at that time ) as Leonard was in his. He was in fact the favourite going into the Mayweather fight, based on his size, strength, and power, and stoppage ratio.

Wtf Joshua Clottey has to do with anything christ only knows, other than the fact he genuinely was a BIG Welterweight, unlike Leonard. A one trick plodder if ever there was one.
