    Just watched the Mayweather Jr fight and first off, I'm a boxing fan and what a scrap!! Impressive fight on the big stage!!. :happy

    Just seen the punch states and this fight is a toss up!

    Should Marco have won due to the punch volume? I believe he landed 221/858 punches and mayweather 231/426.

    From watching the scrap mayweather landed nice crisp shots but clearly Marco was insanely busy in there.

    I think marco should of got the W :deal

    lets be real...if maidana had done floyds work...and floyd had done maidanas work id be saying maidana all day

    i simply dont reward a guy for throwing a ton of punches

    i just dont get it

    i dont care if you throw 1000 punches in a fight....if you land 260 of em....and the other guy lands more than that....while throwing half the number of punches.....you actually favor the guy who threw 1000? why? just because he pushed his hands toward the other guy more?

    There is no blanket policy. It depends on the context, how each round plays out, individual case by case basis.

    You can't say high connect ratio is automatically the way to go if that person is landing half the punches and they're all weak and ineffective. You also can't say high volume is the way to go if the opponent is landing at double the rate with sharper, cleaner, more damaging stuff (or at least effective stuff; 'effective' doesn't need to mean damaging in the sense of scoring a knockdown or drawing blood, although such things do help make it unambiguous how effective punches are).

    I gave it to Floyd but a draw or a win for Marcos wouldn't have been surprising. Well.....if Marcos won a decision over Floyd that's fu*cking surprising but based on who the fight unfolded I'd say it could have gone either way depending on how you like your fights. The judges obviously appreciated quality over quantity. But the cards were wide! It should have been a lot closer.

    When I judge a round I don't really pay as much attention to who is busier... I simply pick the fighter I would rather be at the end of each round, and that fighter wins the round.

    i totally get it and understand

    yet when you read this post....the guy is talking about overall busier guy...."i just saw the punch stats"...."should marco have won due to overall punch volume"....."marco was insanely busy in there...i think he should have gotten the W"
