I dont know if people realize. But this fight would be a huge step up for Thurman. Khan has been in with and has beaten very good fighters, Thurman's best win is Karass. It's more a step up in comp for Thurman than Khan. Khan is a beautiful boxer with a suspect chin. Theres so much about Thurman that we dont know. HOW HE REACTS TO SPEED HIS CHIN (he got rocked by Karass and was hurt bad) HIS DEFENSE. theres so much we dont know.
That's what I'm sayin fonzie, he's fought no one. Any good fighter can look like the greatest fighting average to mediocre guys.
I would favour Thurman by KO (and that's what I voted for) because he is good offensively, quick and powerful and Khan has that chin, but this post above is all true and I've said the same myself in the past. Thurman looks a bit open and is still untested. He might not have the best chin and he might not deal with Khan's speed, straight punches and combinations very well.
No word of a lie, while it probably wouldn't be my official prediction, I would put £10 on Khan to win by KO in the first round here as you'd get pretty good odds on it. Khan has become massively underrated due to his glass chin, whereas Thurman has become massively overrated but as far as I can tell he has a glass chin himself. And I wouldn't expect Khan to let him off the hook once he's got him hurt like Soto Karass did. :deal
Somehow this board has turned me into a khan defendor. Go back and watch the fourth round of the Garcia fight, sure he was hurt, but he didn't topple over after every punch Garcia was throwing, and he was landing bombs! His chin isn't the best But he wont have any problems handling Thurman's shots.
He also stayed on his feet to much harder shots from Maidana than the one's that put hype job Broner down. :deal
:deal Don't get me wrong, it could turn out like the garcia fight. Young hungry talented fighter who we know little about causes a huge upset. But then also, no need to get on the Thurman hype train if there's no evidence to show he's the real deal just yet.
I think Porter and Thurman, while tremendous prospects, are being a bit overrated. They're both heavy hitters but I think Khan is the better boxer. Porter is tough as nails but I think the reason he was able to get to Malignaggi was because Malignaggi wasn't throwing anything significant. "Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face"......I think Khan can definitely land on Porter....and when he does....is he just going to continue to eat shots to land his shots? I think if Khan can survive the first 4-5 rounds without getting knocked down....he'd have a great chance. Has Porter ever even had a 12 round fight?? In addition, I think Porter's very wild and could actually be easier to hold on the clinches since the ref will likely pull them apart. To be honest, I think Maidana would be a tougher fight because of the way he gets inside to attack. Khan's movement has improved. I think if he can control the distance and stay away from fighting on the inside and be laser-sharp on the jab....he'd have a good chance. Plus, I heard he's going to continue to do mini-camps with Hunter so I think it's safe to say he'll be a more improved fighter in 6 months. Don't get me wrong, I think Thurman and Porter would possibly be slight favorites. But I wouldn't count out Khan to outbox them.
