Hughie Fury - What Next??

    Stretched his record to 14 wins, no loss and 8 KOs last night when beating Danny Hughes, however didn't look that impressive at all.

    Has Hughie reached a plateau or was it just a bad night? Who should he fight next? Would Ian lewison be a good test?

    Boxrec has Hughie's next fight as 14th June. It's great to see him busy, however is quality now more important than quantity?

    Thoughts please?

    in all fairness the boys 19 , he could do what ever he wasnt for 7-8 years and still be considered young for the heavyweight division

    his not going to reach his prime for about 10 years anyway

    I found it odd that he's now using his middle name. His nickname should be "And The News".

    The kid is only 19, plenty of time to develop. He should be challenging for a Celtic title this Autumn I feel.

    He had a bit of a shocker last night and lacked power massively. He needs to hit the weights and get the strength and power to keep up with the skills he already has like the jab.
    Hughie looked good against Greer but he has still only had 52 rounds and needs many, many more to reach the higher levels.
    If he keeps having these learning fights and learning his trade slowly but surely, then he will reach the world level with plenty of experience just as the division opens up.
    He is still 19 and although the peak for a heavyweight is much later, I think he will peak earlier, maybe at 25-27 due to how early he has turned pro.

    Don't judge him on one fight, one bad night doesn't make him a bum and I still believe he will go on to do great things in the heavyweight division.

    I think he's got potential. He's only 19 and really, should spend another 3-4 years fighting journeymen before stepping up.

    Get experience under his belt and wait until he stops growing and starts packing more power in his punches before stepping up to elite opposition. There's no rush at all.

    At the moment, I honestly think he lacks power. Once he's a bit older, say 22-23, I'm certain the additional power will come naturally and he'll develop a bit more a pop to hang at world level.

    Seen a few of his fights and he reminds me of Bradley Skeete.

    Bored to tears and the only good thing going for him now is that his fights are hidden away on Boxnation.

    In respect of all this talk of power, it's pretty clear he hasn't matured yet. His arms look pretty thin and his back doesn't look all that robust - but then again what 19 y/o does? Especially at his height.

    Agreed though it was a pretty laboured fight - lots of lunging in. A complete contrast to how he performed against Greer. We'll see though still far too early to draw any absolute conclusions either way.
