Is Floyd mayweather the best ever?

Being undefeated doesn't count for much amongst the ATGs.

Pacquiao has achieved more over more weight classes.

Pacquiao also has better wins and he's far more entertaining to watch.

Why would he need to though? I'd fight as little as possible for the most money too. Him still having a good body/health is just as much about staying clean in and out of the ring, as it about inactivity.

Im not gonna call you a *******. I'll just point out the facts.

Floyd is a decorated amateur, as well as a decorated professional. I'd take Floyd's amateur/Olympic pedigree over the first two years of Pac's career. Pac been a pro slightly longer.



Pac has accomplished a lot, but a lot his wins are tainted with catchweights and waiting until guys look vulnerable for him to fight them. That has more to do with Arum/Roach though.

Bradley was Pac's first convincing win against someone looking impressive prior to the fight in a long time.

 

I always forget that too. He wears grant because of hand problems. If he wore able to wear punchers gloves he'd probably be better. His hands are his biggest weakness. But still keeps guys honest.

He also has lost to Morales, and when he did beat him it was off a loss to Zahir Raheem.

He drew with Dinamita, and got knocked out by him, and doesnt own any clear wins over Marquez. Theres one clear win in that rivalry. It belongs to Marquez.

Agree with Barrera. That's his best win. Easily.

A wasted talent would be Judah. Who was more gifted than Floyd imo.

And he's never fought at the 154 pound limit in his life, it was against Margarito, who wasnt rated at 154, had struggled in his last few fights after being exposed, and for a vacant belt fought at 150.

Realistically, he's a 5 division champion.

 

Someone who got koed 3 times agurably 4 (Huessein fight). To put things in perspective SRR only lost once by Tko and that was to the Heat!

 

I'm tired of Mayweather referencing his 40+ undefeated fight streak as a reason for him being the greatest. Boxing has many fighters who were undefeated for 40+ fights while arguably fighting better comp.

Felix Trinidad 40-0. The version of De La Hoya that Felix fought craps on any fighter on Floyd's resume. The version of Vargas Trinidad fought also craps on anyone on Floyd's resume.

Roy Jones was essentially 50-0. The Version of Toney that Jones fought is better than anyone on Floyd's resume. And the version of Hopkins that Jones fought is better than anyone on Floyd's resume.

Pernell Whitaker was essentially 42-0. The Version of Chavez that Whitaker fought is better than anyone on Floyd's resume. Whitaker arguably beat a better version of De La Hoya. And his win over Nelson might be better than any win Floyd has.

Julio Cesar Chavez was 87-0 with wins over Laporte, Rosario, Ramirez and Taylor.

Joe Calzaghe retired at 46-0. His win over Hopkins is better than any win on Floyd's resume. And his win over Kessler is equal to any win on Floyd's resume except for Canelo and Castillo.

Ricardo Lopez ran his record to 47-0

Marco Antonio Barrera ran his record to 43-0 while defending the super bantamweight title 8 times.

Chris John ran his record to 42-0 with a win over Marquez being better than any win on Floyd resume. (John fought Marquez at his natural weight)

Erik Morales ran his record to 41-0 with his win over Barrera being better than any win on Floyd's resume.

Larry Holmes Ran his record to 48-0

James Toney Was 44-0 before losing to Jones. His win over McCallum is a better than any win in Floyd's resume. And his win over Michael Nunn is arguably at least equal to any win on Floyd's resume.

Now I'm not saying Floyd isn't a great fighter. I'm just pointing to the fact that referencing his undefeated record as evidence of him being the greatest doesn't make sense because boxing is littered with fighters whohave compiled 40+ undefeated records while fighting better fighters than Floyd has in some cases. I think when Floyd loses it will be a good thing because we will finally be able to judge him by the quality of his resume and not simply because he's won all his fights.

Let me reiterate for clarity: I'm not saying Mayweather is not a great. He's an ATG to be exact. What I'm arguing is the meaning of his undefeated record. Floyd wants us to believe that his undefeated record means that he is the TBE (The Best Ever). I tend to disagree. The only thing that Mayweather could use in defense of his TBE argument is the quality of his resume. And at the moment his resume does not support the claim of TBE.

 

I'd probably have him in the 90-100 region. Amongst active boxers Hopkins rates highest, even though I don't like the ****.
