initially mayweather wanted the same deal he has with showtime with hbo but hbo refused and now we can see why showtime as company thought by giving mayweather the deal would make them tons of money and this has not happened infact they are making huge losses. Mayweather has averaged more than 1 million pay-per-view buys since fighting Oscar De La Hoya in 2007. But sustaining that could become problematic if the level of competition isn’t intriguing enough. when showtime gave maywather the contract they never thought for 1 minute that mayweather wouldn't make 1 mill buys.... I really think that it was knee jerk reaction from showtime to offer mayweather the deal. hbo won.....:deal
one of the few times one of your posts is worth replying to considering your thinly-veiled agenda, but... "sustaining that could become problematic if the level of competition isn't intriguing enough" is correct, but only partly big numbers is also dependent on if the opposing fighter sells, and in a non-mainstream sport that only hits the spotlight when it's elite $$$ players fight, there are never going to be a lot of fighters around who will fit that bill
this is exactly what I was saying in another thread 20 minutes ago it's extremely short-sighted to offer a deal of this size in a sport that has so few PPV draws, therefore very few PPV viable matchups (with regards to this deal working for showtime), and they seem to have offered no sweetener in the deal for Floyd if he fights pacman....the biggest fight out there! that's incredibly poor business sense, and makes me think that they were so busy looking at the $$$ Floyd made previously, that they just assumed it would continue based on his talent alone
if any of you truly believe sho/cbs is "losing" money you are a bigger moron than originally thought. they are making a killing you morons
each fight has brought in 100's of millions of dollars. how the phuck could they possibly LOSE money ?
They lost 12 mil from the Guerrero fight and made it back for the Canelo fight. They are not making a huge profit that is for sure they are more than likely a little above break even or below depending on the Maidana numbers.
:roflatsch Half of PPV revenue off the top goes to DirecTV, Comcast, Charter, Dish Network, etc they don't keep all the money :rofl
