    just watched it again

its interesting the commentators keep talking about pernell out boxing him
    AND and making him miss???

    REALLY

but never said a word about that almost everything pernell threw
    chavez would slip or block
    with good head movement

they mention chavez mostly using the right hand
    ok
but what was pernell landing besides the jab
    for most of the match

almost all this body work is blocked

Yes it was a huge robbery. Pernell landed increasingly with left and right hooks, left and right uppercuts to the head and body as the bout progressed and most of his body punches were not blocked. Julio was out hit to the body with most of his blocked by Pernell's elbows and Whitakers jabs to both the head and body did land especially through the first 2-3rds of the bout. The failure of Julio to land or solidly land his right hand caused many close rounds to fall to Pernell's catching him with the jab throughout. Julio was aggressive enough like always and threw enough punches but was out everything'd.

well the body work-inside fighting would have been different if pernell
    didnt clinch so much

and pernell moved very nicely but that didnt mean he landed the punches he threw.
i was watching the action very closely u can tell
pernell was hitting air so much of the time

    its like many ali fights,
he moves well then throws 5 punch flurry at say norton etc

norton slips 3 and blocks 2, howard cosell screams about ali lighting him up

I respect what you see watching it, different then my take but that's why theres three judges per bout too. As Burt always says, Cheers!

There's been a lot worse but whitaker still got screwed. He won 8-4 on my card.

I've been saying this for years. I have had Whitaker by 2 rounds most of the time (including watching it in person). A draw seemed a stretch but not a gross robbery.

Hell yes Whitaker was hosed, but when you are fighting a Don King fighter, who is hispanic, in Texas, with a stadium full of Mexicans, you have to KO your opponent to win, Pernell didn't and suffered the consequences...

    yes true

    BUT
IF we are talking about how the people see the fight
often times it is VERY MUCH INFLUENCED BY COMMENTATORS.

    WHY

because the action is very fast often in exchanges especially in lighter divisions.

so when you hear the commentators talk about shots landing when they are
missing it is easy to get influenced.

here is a great video on such a subject

even though i do think pacman won that fight but it makes good points on commentators

Not the biggest robbery ever as people would have you believe but Pernell won around 8 rounds to 4..

Whitaker won the fight clearly but Chavez did win rounds it wasn't a total landslide . The biggest robbery in whitaker's career was his first fight with Jose Luis Ramirez terrible terrible decision that one
