Who could have beaten a prime Roy Jones Jr?

Jones' prime was 168-175. I wouldn't chose any 168lb'er in history over Roy head to head. Not even close. At 175, I imagine there are one or two guys who may have given prime Roy a challenge - but it's tough to pick any 175lb'ers over Roy. Foster and Spinks come to mind.

 

Gentlemen, I am not trying to get into a massive debate on the subject. I already witnessed how shot bloated, end of career Calzaghe dominated Jones for 11 rounds, in a fight many felt Jones would win.
M Griffin who I dont think is as talented as the fighters I mentioned knew to push Jones back, yet many of those fighters I listed would have pushed Jones back and unloaded punches.

Keep in mind they fought under different weigh-in procedures (well, Spinks did up until apparently the aborted rematch with Eddie Muhammad), so even though Roy peaked at 168 rather than 175, it's a fair H2H matchup in size.

 

Jones was a HORRIBLE matchup for Toney.

Toney could be in peak shape, he'd still lose to RJJ

 

As much as I love Hearns, he was WAY too chinny and Roy's combination of speed and power is too much for the Motor City Cobra to overcome.

At 168 it would be a matter of who got to who's chin first. 160 i give it to hearns at 175 RJJ

 

I cannot remember anyone thinking the shot to **** RJJ ould win:think Most thought he would lose by KO as usual by that time.

DQ by Griffin is not a blue print my friend. I will say it again, the only one that could have beaten RJJ at that time as Toney . . . no one else had the tools to come clase

 

It is your opinion, I know I am not going to change that. But what isn't an opinion, is Jones' chin held up fine vs. ATGs Toney and Hopkins, through 4 weight classes and 50 fights.. A glass chin would have been exposed much earlier. It wasn't until late in his career and after coming back down from HW and being KOed by Tarver when his chin seemed to have problems. I also like how you listed 3 of his weakest opponents at LHW
We both know he beat better fighters than that at LHW.:yep Richard Hall didn't do too bad vs. DM though.:deal

Jones' resume is actually pretty impressive. You can't let fights missed take away from what is actually there.. It doesn't work that way, you can't undo wins over missed fights.

Roy was an incredible athlete who's speed and agility made up for his fundamental shortcomings of which he had a few. Once he lost a little speed and athleticism we saw the holes in his defense as well as him dropping his power hand after the jab. Little things like this brought about his demise.

But in his prime I would've like to see him give James Toney a rematch. James wasn't right that first fight. Roy may have had something to do with that but James was far from the guy we'd been watching his whole career.

You really need to stop Joe was at his peak in term of ring yrs Jones was triple past his prime ! And the reason Griffen was able to push Jones back was because of hall of fame trainer Eddie Futch who has been known to make legend killers !

I never pick against Roy in any fantasy fight .

Now all because I wont pick against him does not make him unbeatable .
No fighter is unbeatable .

 

Against prime Jones Jr.? Really? Fat-ass Fabrice Tiozzo? LOL. Prime Roy would've stopped several of these guys and easily decisioned the rest.
