-Not more proven power at MW.

-I'm sure you imagine Roy would or could do alot of things but in reality he struggled to make 160, went over the limit a few times, and left the divison for good at 25.

Hagler stopped better fighters at MW no doubt.. But do you think Hagler could have carried one punch KO power up to LHW?

Kind of irrelevant as Hagler was a career MW

Also it is possible for fighters to get stronger as they go up in terms of punching power due to them being closer to their natural weight

Worthy challenge? Of course DM was a worthy challenge to Roy, possibly more worthy than any of his LHW fights.

I still believe despite the identical record, that Roy was better against common opposition. The same can be said for knockouts.. To me, a questionable stoppage, is not as successful as knocking someone into next week.

    Very true..

But in terms of who was P4P the more powerful puncher, I would give it to Roy for sure.

Roy would have been very weary of McCllelan's power as he knew him well.. I am not sure G-Man connects clean.. He would have went for it for sure.. And despite popular belief, Roy's chin was not always as bad as it was in his mid 30's and 40's..

If Roy can get to the second half of the fight, he dominates Gerald.

Would be hard to pick Jones over any power punching ATG to be honest. He simply doesn't have the Chin to hang in there with ATG's. Sure he can beat all the Otis Grant's and Rihard Halls with ease but that isn't who he would be fighting. Jones didn't fight one savage puncher in his whole career but he would in mythical matchups and that Glass Jaw of his would get brutally shattered.

    -Yep.

-This was regarding Jones and Hagler at MW. Not a theoretically LHW match up.

    -Exactly.

-My statement never specified "better" or worse for that matter.

As would I....but that would not really count for anything if the two of them squared off at middleweight

There are lost of unknowns about strictly MW Roy as he was young and green there.. But he possesed the physical gifts to give anyone there problems IMO.

Hagler-Jones at MW would be a pickem for me. I can see a case made for either winning.

Why don't you go ask Michael Nunn how "savage" a well placed shot from Toney is.:rofl

Are you not surprised that glass jaw Roy moved up in weight and made the Toney fight after watching what happened to Nunn?

-Which was my original statement regarding a proposed Jones/Hagler MW match up, which prompted an apparent protest from you over the last few pages.

    -Ok.

James Toney was never in any form or fashion a power puncher. He was a very good win for Roy probably his best not taking that away. McClellen and Julian Jackson were savage punchers. That is the level of power I am talking about. Toney falls well short of that (as do a lot of guys) but there were ATG's in history that had that type of power from 160-175 and it would be ugly for Roy. Honestly him not having a Plan B in a fight might be even worse.

I just think these things would be huge problems for Roy in Head to Head match ups. I know he can handle the B level guys with ease. :good
